Astera Labs is seeking a dynamic and experienced Facilities Manager with a strong focus on environmental health and safety (EHS) to oversee the management and maintenance of our facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety, sustainability, and compliance of our facilities with environmental regulations and best practices. As the Facilities Manager at Astera Labs, you will be responsible for overseeing the facilities requirements at our headquarters in Santa Clara, as well as our international sites in Canada, Israel, Taiwan, and China. This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and will be onsite at our Santa Clara headquarters.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver vision and leadership for the worldwide facilities operation, ensuring effective management of sustainable growth both in the short and long term.
- Provide oversight of architectural design and implementation for a multitude of facilities projects including building modifications and improvements.
- Create RFx documents to solicit bids for various facility expansion projects.
- Coordinate the project management of construction projects, overseeing contractor engagements and obtaining necessary permit approvals to ensure successful and timely completion.
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities to identify potential environmental, health, or safety hazards, and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Manage the company's waste management program, including hazardous waste disposal, recycling initiatives, and sustainability efforts.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure that facilities are designed and operated in an environmentally responsible and resource-efficient manner.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of facilities, including mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Manage relationships with vendors and contractors to ensure that work performed on-site complies with EHS standards and company policies.
- Coordinate and develop relationships with local economic development, permit, & planning offices.
- Partner with leadership and key stakeholders including HR, IT, and Security to build and sustain a best-in-class employee experience and workplace environment.
- Manage facility related security across Astera Labs worldwide operations.
- Lead and support safety training programs for employees, including emergency response procedures, hazardous materials handling, and other relevant topics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements.
- Develop and manage the facilities budget, including forecasting and cost control measures related to EHS initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support sustainability initiatives, energy conservation, and other environmentally responsible practices.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to procurement activities, including cost savings, supplier performance, and service levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a start-up organization highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, facilities management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Facility Manager, Certified Safety Professional) are a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, with a strong emphasis on environmental health and safety.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, OSHA standards, and best practices related to EHS management.
- Ability to interpret construction specifications, documents, working drawings, and related reports.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in understanding management agreements and vendor contract language.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Proven track record of implementing sustainable and environmentally responsible initiatives within a corporate setting.
- Experience with budget management and financial analysis related to facilities operations.
- Proficiency in MS Office and facilities management software.
