What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Aston Carter?
As a member our of Buying team the person in this position will be responsible for procuring goods and services from a class or family of suppliers in direct support of manufacturing operations, and strategic metrics. This position will be the primary contact with suppliers in the areas of supplier performance, engineering change implementation, flow of material, inventory control, and disposition of non-conforming goods on a given commodity team. The Buyer will use the ERP/MRP system to purchase materials from suppliers to meet manufacturing, and customer schedule requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process requisitions, quotes and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
- Ensure purchase order is correct regarding pricing and delivery
- Ensure order is acknowledged by supplier • Maintain and track purchasing records, including PO’s, invoice payment and PO status
- Ensure proper part number setup for files under purchasing control
- Create debits memos, and credit memos as needed
- Determine quantity and timing of deliveries, monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand, and maintain stock levels
- Coordinate the proper flow of material and resolve invoice issues
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitutes and provide shortage updates Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation o Negotiate price, payment terms, delivery schedules and freight terms
- Evaluate bids and make recommendations; based on factors, award bids.
- Maintain positive working relationships with suppliers and internal customers and liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, internal departments, and customers.
- Work with Quality and Engineering to select, qualify and approve new suppliers.
- Communicate inventory and packaging issues to materials management
- Provide feedback to manufacturing and purchasing management concerning potential problems that could affect manufacturing operations.
- Support production and aftermarket groups. Communicate effectively with the Buying Team.
- Assist Operations purchasing on root cause analysis team to fix material shortages and report on critical items.
- Initiate, lead, manage complex supplier projects and participate in internal lean events.
- Assist in Kanban implementation to zone for purchased parts.
- Manage inventory control activities for material stored at suppliers.
- Support new model introduction into production area.
- Support change in supplier shipping and packaging habits driven by purchasing.
- Execute on select business conducted with suppliers and coordinate internal actions between supplier and the product.
- Create spot buy and blanket orders with suppliers. Manage and maintain MRP message activities to meet customer demand.
- Create and present purchasing metrics to management.
- Maintain supplier portal communication and training with suppliers.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, Logistics, Finance, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of Supply Chain experience in a manufacturing organization, with an understanding of Lean principles, material and inventory, processes, capacity management, and quality operating systems.
- Previous experience in Materials, Purchasing, Logistics, Supply Chain and/or Strategic Sourcing.
- Able to develop negotiation pricing factoring in material cost drivers, market forces and financial implications.
- Experience managing suppliers, the relationships and leading a spend portfolio to drive metrics and value.
- Able to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, evaluate options and, considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one, implement solutions.
- Proficient in current computer software: MS Applications; PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and understanding of ERP systems (Syteline is a plus).
- CPIM or CSCP certification a plus.
- Excellent written communications skills, including the use of proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar to produce error-free copy, particularly composing letters, reports and documents used for decision making.
- Outstanding Oral communication skills including tact and diplomacy which would be utilized during customer service, conflict management, development of relationships with internal and external contact.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse projects including, analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.
- Able to perform in a fast-paced, team environment, under pressure with time constraints while responding and adapting to change favorably and quickly.
*Flexible hours: 8 hour day starting between 7am - 9am M-F
*6 month contract to hire – Looking to make this person permanent
*Hybrid schedule after training period
