Description:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing Human Resources related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Human Resources Manager in supporting the business unit. This position carries out a broad spectrum of responsibilities including full cycle recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, labor relations and compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assists Human Resources Manager with recruiting: posting positions, scheduling interviews, reviewing resumes, attending job fairs, interviewing for non-exempt positions, applicant tracking and communication
- Conducts background checks, schedules pre-employment tests, assists new hires with electronic onboarding paperwork, and completes I9 verification and
e-Verify
- Conducts orientation for new hires: scheduling and facilitating new hire onboarding, enters information into safety software, provide new hire orientation and facilitates new hire initial training, collaborates with supervisors and managers for release of the employee to their position
- Ensure all personnel transactions are entered into the UKG system and appropriate information is uploaded to SharePoint payroll site.
- Creates and completes reports for accounting and payroll: Weekly payroll report and 401(k) report; Monthly PTO report, Pension, Union Dues; Keeps attendance tracker up to date
- Assists Human Resources Manager by attending and documenting disciplinary meetings when Human Resources Manager is absent or otherwise unavailable
- Assists employees with open enrollment for benefits, as well as answering benefit related questions, and helping employees enroll or make changes to their benefits
- Consults with line management to provide basic Human Resources guidance when appropriate and refers them to Human Resources Manager when the situation is more complex
- Provide support and counseling to employees regarding basic job-related conflicts, problem solving, dispute resolution, and refers more complex issues to Human Resources Manager
- Assists Human Resources Manager with conducting and maintaining efficient, timely, thorough, and objective investigations
- Partners with the HR Manager to develop solutions and programs to increase employee engagement including scheduling events, employee recognition programs, service award programs, flu clinics, etc.
- Create and maintain good relationships with employees, management, and union
- Be available to help employees and make regular visits to various employee workspaces within the facility
- Maintain and coordinate employee recognition and service award programs, and sends out the appropriate surveys in a timely manner
- Contribute to the design and delivery of HR related communications (benefits, emails, policy changes, AppSpace, etc.)
- Maintain employee files ensuring documents and manuals are kept current, accurate, confidential and in compliance with all applicable laws and company policies
- Performs as a backup to Human Resources Manager for payroll completion meeting all deadlines, policy, and legal compliance
- Assists Human Resources Manager with employee, supervisor, and management trainings
- Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
MUST HAVE:
- 1-3 years HR Generalist Experience - manufacturing/construction/aerospace etc.
- Employee Relations - People person
- Willing to go on floor 2/day
- HRIS Experience (ideally UKG but so long as proficient in HRIS)
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, or a related field; PHR or SHRM-CP preferred (nice to have)
- 1 to 3 years of Human Resources experience - Manufacturing & HR Generalist experience
- Experience with unions and collective bargaining agreements strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment law, regulations, and statutes
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication
- Demonstrated strong proficiency in MS Office Suite and HRIS systems, as well as the ability to adapt, learn, and apply skills when using various computer programs
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to consolidate data into concise, executive-ready presentations and reports
- Ability to think strategically, make decisions, and problem solve while working under pressure, as well as the ability to realize when a decision does not need to be made immediately but can wait.
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively; ability to apply good judgement with consideration to risk/reward, ethics, legal requirements
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, vendors, and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and decorum
- Must be able to work independently, as a team, and be able to work with both internal and external customers
- Must be able to collaborate in a professional manner with employees, managers, and supervisors
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability and willingness to travel an estimated less than 5%
- Authorized to work for any employer in the United States of America
