Description:
• Use CCH Axcess return preparation software to prepare U.S. federal information tax returns as required for approximately fifty foreign companies doing business outside the U.S., most of which are controlled foreign corporations under subpart F. Prepare and maintain supporting workpapers for all tax items, including foreign company equity, foreign earnings and profits and Previously Taxed Income.
• Compute subpart F income inclusions, participation exemption, foreign tax credit, GILTI, FDII and BEAT.
• Prepare and file FBARs.
• Prepare the international component of U.S. federal quarterly tax estimates.
• Assist the Tax Accounting Manager in responding to data requests arising during financial statement accounting audits.
• Assist the Federal Tax Manager with international tax issues arising in federal tax audits and controversies.
• Assist outside service providers in preparing transfer pricing and country-by-country studies and reports.
• Assist the Tax Director with outbound tax planning.
• Design a system for compliance with the rules on withholding of tax at source.
• Serve as the principal tax department liaison to our foreign company controllers.
• Maintain familiarity with developments in federal law on the U.S. taxation of international transactions.
• Perform and implement research on complex tax issues.
• Foreign company accounting staff is responsible for foreign tax compliance, including foreign corporate tax and VAT/GST. Consequently, familiarity with those subjects is not necessary.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
• Experience using CCH Prosystem/Axcess or similar tax return preparation software.
• Particular experience preparing Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 1118, 8975, W-8BEN-E and FinCEN 114.
• Familiarity with Hyperion Financial Management or similar financial consolidation software.
• Superior skill with Microsoft Excel.
• Must know how to enter, organize and format data, how to work with multiple worksheets, how to create formulas using basic functions including If and VLookup, and how to use absolute and relative referencing.
• The International Tax Manager must be a deep diver into complex technical rules.
• Working knowledge of the source-of-income rules, foreign entity tax classification, foreign currency translation, and U.S. taxation of foreign company acquisitions, dispositions and mergers.
• Experience researching tax questions using databases such as those from Bloomberg BNA, Thompson Reuters Checkpoint and Wolters Kluwer AnswerConnect.
• Ability to clearly communicate tax research results verbally and in writing.
• Must be comfortable both with asking for help when needed and also with taking ownership of this position and communicating to colleagues and outside service providers with authority and confidence.
• A California licensed CPA would receive particularly close consideration. While we would prefer a candidate with the specifically described experience, we would consider and be willing to train a smart and motivated CPA with general corporate tax compliance experience and some familiarity with the relevant subjects. Of course, such a candidate should not expect a salary offer at the high end of the advertised range.
