Description:
- Analyze, select and classify applications for Life insurance of a more complex nature in accordance with established underwriting policies, practices and standards.
- Administers Life selection standards according to underwriting practices and procedures in order to achieve satisfactory mortality experience and acceptable administrative results.
- Demonstrates self-directed leadership role on special projects and departmental committees.
- Assumes informal leadership role within team by identifying problems and potential solutions within the team.
- Home Office Life Underwriting experience minimum 5 years (Preferred)
- Long Term Care Rider underwriting experience (Ideal)
- Accelerated underwriting experience
- Customer relationships skills required with communications via phone or email (SERVICE orientated)
- Participates in the development and refinement of new and/or enhanced products and establishment of acceptance standards and pricing policy to line operations. Provides input to Pricing for product changes and state filings.
- Participates in the development, implementation, maintenance and refinement of techniques, methods and/or procedures, which can be utilized to train case underwriters. Presents training to field underwriting personnel as assigned.
- Provides counsel and assistance to line operations in the interpretations of underwriting policy, rules, and standards in accordance with criteria established by reinsurance partners, insurance departments, underwriting procedures or legislation activity.
Responsible for underwriting life insurance applications within his/her designated approval limit of up to $5,000,000 and up to age 85. Champions and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area\(s\) of responsibility. Collaborates effectively with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision making and to select profitable risks. Communicates effectively with customers to facilitate placement of business. Consults/Analyze on more complex assignments and/or projects for his/her assigned area\(s\) of responsibility. Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial environment. Enhances departmental outcomes by sharing knowledge with team members and providing advice on more complex underwriting determinations. Evaluates and underwrites life insurance applications making determinations of the terms, coverage, and rating classification within his/her designated approval limit $2,000,000 to $5,000,000 and between ages 70 to 85. Identifies and recommends process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality for his/her assigned area\(s\) of responsibility. Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area\(s\) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions. Provides second signature review of life insurance applications. Provides training to less experienced team members on underwriting procedures and guidelines. Represents the company by responding to questions during agency visits and developing relationships with agents and partners. Serves as a resource to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on more complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned are of responsibility.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 yrs experience
- Home office experience preferred
- Tech savvy
- LTC underwriting experience preferred (long term care/disability)
- Great customer service skills (Service is a core value this group)
- Experience with morbidity risk assessment (long term care) would be highly preferred (this is 30-40% of their business). This experience might also be obtained through disability underwriting.
- Candidates should have experience accessing mortality risk, morbidity risk, medical risk, using pharmacy databases, financial records, and have strong computer skills and ability to work efficient in a remote capacity.
