Description:
The Physician Coding Auditor must have a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, coding, contractual agreements, and various payment methodologies. This position requires good time management skills and the ability to work independently.
- Review physician charges against medical record and all applicable documentation to determine appropriate code assignments for diagnoses and services provided (CPT/HCPCS codes)
- Understand billing and coding requirements for government and commercial payers
- Abstract statistical data from the patient record and enter information following facility guidelines
- Utilize coding resources or applicable reference materials to ensure accuracy in coding for assigned services
- Assist other departments in coding and reimbursement issues
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and uphold a higher standard around privacy requirements.
- Adhere to all internal competencies, behaviors, policies and procedures to ensure efficient work processes
- Completes all assigned work in a timely manner based on internal, client and/or payer standards
- Maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate
- Maintain productivity standards, tracking logs and deadlines
- Keep all equipment and access updated and active
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Possess at least one of the following certifications - CPC, CPC-H (COC), CPMA, CIC, RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS-P certification
- Minimum 1 year of physician coding and auditing experience, multi-specialty experience preferred
- Knowledge of auditing and/or coding with CPT/HCPCS/ICD10 diagnosis and PCS
- HS diploma required
- Technology Requirements: At least 50mbs high speed internet, private and secure access to a router, and no hotspots will be permitted. and no hotspots will be permitted.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of working in EMR system
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Knowledge of Physician Reimbursement guidelines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Previous Epic experience a plus.
- Ability to work in a flexible environment, adapting to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently, as well as, in a team setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction and be service-oriented.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
