What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underwriter position at Aston Carter?
Description:
Contractors will analyze the medical conditions on an enrollment form then apply appropriate medical risk for utilizing approved medical guidelines that are provided.
This position is responsible for overseeing the A&H portfolio of products from the perspective of risk and profitability, recommending appropriate action as needed, and offering up solutions through a combination of rate adjustments, plan amendments, and distribution modifications.
1. Order necessary requirements based on group material submitted for completeness
2. Analyze the risk factors on an enrollment form; apply appropriate medical risk for sound risk decisions utilizing approved medical guidelines provided
3. Evaluate eligibility of the business (this includes participation, legitimacy of the business)
4. Process data on web based underwriting applications, and appropriate worksheets
5. Serves as subject matter expert and contact for North Star Marketing and TPA, works collaboratively with sales offices to meet company objectives while balancing risk
6. Conducts user acceptance testing, adhering to test plans, and meeting all delivery dates
7. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with outside vendors and acts as liaison between staff and vendor
8. Analyzes new business quote/proposal for accuracy
9. Analyzes broker appointments
10. Evaluate eligibility and enrollment requirements of new enrollees to employer group plan
11. Evaluate employer changes, such as waiting period change requests, appeals from businesses and TPA
12. Build and maintain relationships with internal partners to improve agent satisfaction

1) Minimum of a High School Diploma - Bachelor’s Degree (Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics) or Insurance-related work experience preferred
2) 2 years of experience within a Healthcare role - this could be Insurance Verification, Scheduling, Data Entry, Underwriting, Pre-Authorization
3) Strong knowledge of medical terminology
