Job duties for this position may include any or all of the following:
• Enter geographic and attribute data from text files, spreadsheets, and scanned maps/drawings;
• Create maps, reports, and documents using data and statistics derived from a geographic information system;
• Coordinate with technical experts to resolve conflicting geographic data issues;
• Perform quality control checks;
• Conduct spatial analyses which may include analysis of nonspatial data;
• Import and export data in a variety of formats;
• Create clear and concise technical documentation of GIS processes.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Considerable knowledge of the objectives, methods, systems, and applications of geographic information systems;
• Skill in advanced operations within Esri ArcGIS for Desktop (ArcMap);
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as construction/as-built plans;
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
Education:
• Possession of a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in revising, updating, and/or maintaining geographic information databases.
o Substitution(s): Possession of a master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
o Additional years of experience using GIS software packages such as Esri ArcGIS for Desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. (One (1) year of experience is equated to thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours.)
o Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) certification through the GIS Certification Institute may substitute for the education requirement.
Desired Skills & Experience:
• General knowledge of research and problem-solving techniques;
• Considerable knowledge of digital cartographic techniques and standards and traditional map production processes;
• General knowledge of database design and management;
• Experience using versioned editing within an enterprise geodatabase;
• Experience using ArcFM Solution for Desktop, including Fiber Manager and Conduit Manager modules;
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees, colleagues, government officials, general public, and members of the professional community;
• Ability to provide technical information in an appropriate format for the target audience;
• Ability to analyze data sources and integrate source information into a geographic framework.
