Job description – PSYCHIATRIC ASSISTANT/DRUG AND ALCOHOL COUNSELOR
Athena House is a transitional & supportive housing home for individuals who are actively working on their mental health. We are located in a homelike environment in the Encino Area.
We are looking for staff members who enjoy helping and encouraging others, and individuals who have emapthy for those working through thier life's challenges.
- Per Diem to possible part time positions
- Pay rate is $19-23 per hour, depending on experience and education.
- Currently hiring for day shifts, night shifts, weekends and on-call, per diem
- Psychiatric and psychology students are encouraged to apply!!
Position Purpose:
Primary responsibility of the position is to maintain an environment that is safe, comfortable, supportive and secure for our residents. Supporting residents with trauma care, partial hospitalization, clinical program debrefing.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 2 years clean and sober if in recovery
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional Customer Service Skills
- Dependability and integrity to others is necessary
- Experience with sober living or transitional housing programs a plus.
Preferred:
- Associate Arts Degree
- Experience working in a substance abuse program or psychiatric hospitals or programs.
- Understanding of addictions, psychiatric diagnoses, spectrum disorders
- Individuals who have taken an active role in their own mental health
- Knowledge of supportive living skills
Principal Responsibilities:
- Engage all residents in conversations and activities that are edifying and stimulating.
- Model effective behaviors for residents, such as journaling, reading, exercise, social skills, household responsibilities, postive attitude etc.
- Support residents with household tasks.
- Support with logging of medication and observation of residents administering.
- Monitor client’s rooms for cleanliness and encourge them to be active in its care.
- Ensure that clients have the items that they need (i.e., linen, hygiene products, clean clothes, etc.)
- Ensure that all residents are properly respecting and maintaining common areas (esp. kitchens, living rooms, patio’s, and all property of PSL).
- Monitor that residents are following house rules.
- Observe and report any unusual behaviors or potential areas of conflict between residents.
- Monitor proper use and functioning of appliances and other household equipment. Observe any unusual activities that may pose a safety or nuisance issue for the clients or neighbors.
- Maintain awareness of all household supplies (i.e., cleaning supplies, cooking utensils, furniture, household keys etc.).
- Prepare bedrooms for new residents entering into homes (i.e., clean linens, dresser drawers, bedroom cleanliness etc.).
- Review Program and House Rules with all new residents and ensure client compliance with house rules.
- Support with House Meetings, Community Meetings, Group Outings or Life Skills Groups if requested.
- Welcome and introduce new clients to all existing residents.
- Assist in monitoring PSL property to protect from damage and/or theft.
- Communicate in a culturally sensitive manner as our client population is diverse.
- Transportation to/from appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Attend all trainings.

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- Mental & Behavioral Health Occupations: 2 years (Preferred)
- Mental & Behavioral Health Technicians: 1 year (Required)
License/Certification:
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
- Driver's License (Required)
