Position Title: Community Engagement Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Pay Scale: $45,000 plus health insurance stipend of $500 per month
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator engages individuals currently or formerly experiencing homelessness. This role fosters trust and rapport, facilitating open discussions about their experiences. The Coordinator connects individuals with lived experiences to feedback opportunities on service delivery, identifies gaps in community services, and promotes meaningful participation in community organizing and advocacy with connections to service providers, healthcare providers, and faith-based organizations. These interactions may include one-on-one interviews, focus groups, collaboration with the Street Outreach team, and other community level engagements. The Coordinator relays insights from those with lived experience/expertise to the broader community, including service providers and community leaders.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:
● Maintain a high level of trust and rapport with individuals with current or prior lived experience of homelessness
● Foster community among people with living and lived experience of homelessness to learn from, grow with, heal alongside, and support each other
● Connect, educate, and foster collaboration with local agencies, community members, and faith-based organizations
● Create and support an advisory board or committee comprised of peers with lived experience of homelessness
● Organize opportunities for those with lived experience to share their experience in front of strategic audiences such as service providers, public officials, and the general community
● Develop and facilitate trainings with the support of the Lived Experience Committee of the Athens Homeless Coalition
● Evaluate the community-level impacts of projects, technical assistance, training, and consulting services
● Facilitate one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and other conversations with those with lived experience of homelessness and other relevant community members with a trauma-informed and empowerment-focused approach
● Create, distribute, and administer surveys and other data collection tools in collaboration with the Community Data Coordinator
● Support efforts to synthesize, interpret, and communicate findings with community partners
Technical Competencies:
● Strong interpersonal skills
○ Demonstrated experience and ability in working with diverse audiences, including people who identify as LGBTQ, have disabilities, or are experiencing homelessness
○ Ability to develop relationships and establish trust with those with lived experience of homelessness
○ Demonstrated experience and ability to recognize and respond to the ways race, ethnicity, and other identities intersect, and commitment to promoting racial equity and social justice
○ Strong oral and written communication skills
● Experience in trauma-informed practices
○ Ability to engage others in a trauma-informed manner with high levels of empathy and respect
○ Ability to create and facilitate safe spaces for honest and vulnerable conversations
● Ability to develop programing to fit the evolving needs of community engagement for the Athens Homeless Coalition
● Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
● Equivalent work experience combined with lived experience/expertise of homelessness will be considered
● Personal lived experience of homelessness
● Peer certifications such as CPS-MH, CPS-AD, FPM, and/or CARES
● At least 1 year of direct service provision experience with individuals or families experiencing homelessness
