What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wound Care Nurse Consultant, RN position at Athens?
Responsible for providing consultative services to skilled
nursing centers across North Georgia related to wound, ostomy and continence
care. Serves to provide direct consultation, orientation and training, program
review and recommendations for centers to maintain an effective wound, ostomy
and continence care program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assists in incorporating wound, ostomy and
continence care into the patient’s total plan of care.
- Monitors the skilled nursing center wound care
program adherence to guidelines and best practices, properly working equipment,
adequate and appropriate supplies; provide recommendations to the skilled
nursing center Director of Nursing and Administrator as needed.
- Attends and participates in patient assessment
and care planning meetings as necessary including telemedicine consults.
- Provides center on-site visits as determined by
the needs of the skilled nursing center.
- Instructs other health team professionals and
family members in the methods of assisting the patient to improve or correct
compromised skin.
- Orients new skilled nursing center treatment
nurses in their role.
- Reviews the competence of nursing personnel
assigned to treatments and makes necessary adjustments/corrections as required.
- Monitors center compliance with wound, ostomy
and continence guidelines.
- Makes recommendations to the skilled nursing
center Administrator and/or Regional Vice President for Inpatient Services any
equipment and supply needs related to wound, ostomy and continence care.
- Attends and participates in continuing
educational programs designed to maintain knowledge of current practices in the
field of expertise, and support licensure and certification status.
- Honors patients’ rights to fair and equitable
treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil
rights, and respect.
- Follows established safety regulations when
performing job tasks to include fire protection/prevention, infection
prevention, and occupational hazards. Reports any exposures as required.
- Complies with the organization’s compliance,
privacy and security programs.
- Promotes the image and reputation of the System
by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of
communication.
- Contributes to the work of committees,
workgroups, project management, and other collaborative efforts of the System.
- Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the
success of the System.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Registered Nurse licensure in Georgia or compact
state
- Certified Wound Care Ostomy (WOCN)
- Minimum two years of experience as an
Enterostomal Therapy Nurse in a hospital, skilled nursing care center or other
related medical center.
- Demonstrated competence in the performance of
wound care assessment and consulting.
- Comfort with technology in order to perform
telemedicine consults.
- Ability to teach and present information in a
positive manner to audiences of varying educational background.
- Ability to travel throughout the State of
Georgia as needed.
