We are hiring! Atkins is seeking a Safety Health and Environment Manager to join our team in the Baltimore, MD area.

This role will Provide environment, health, and safety (EHS) technical support and guidance to all levels of management to ensure the project complies with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS-related regulations as well as firm policies, procedures, and operating instructions.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Provides technical expertise and advice in EHS-related requirements and issues to all levels of management
  • Provides the project/program management staff with EHS technical support in their development of project-specific EHS plans, identification of EHS-related project budget and staffing resource requirements, and other project-specific issues related to program/project EHS compliance and operational requirements.
  • Assists project managers with meeting requirements of the company EHS program, including assistance with defining and delivering EHS training, participation in medical monitoring processes, and management of EHS-related licenses, permits, and authorizations required to perform Subsidiary/Group Company business operations.
  • Directly oversees response to all project EHS incidents and assists project management with the performance of thorough incident investigation and follow-up activities in accordance with firm requirements.
  • Coordinates with the HSE Regional Manager and HSE Director to implement requirements of the firm's EHS Program
  • Coordinates with the HSE Regional Manage and HSE Director to obtain support and resources as necessary to ensure the project is able to meet the regulatory compliance and EHS risk management needs for its business activities.
  • Performs other such duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

COMPLEXITY

Manages HSE oversight within a project, covering multiple worksites across a geographical area.

Position helps to enhance safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate risk across area of responsibility.

DECISION-MAKING

Regional HSE Manager and HSE Director will provide Supervision as necessary regarding HSE program.

Works independently under the general guidance of the Supervisor.

Makes non-routine decisions and recommendations to technical managers throughout the area or responsibility.

WORK DIRECTION GIVEN TO OTHERS

Will report to the Project Manager for direction on day today requirements for the project.

Facilitates.

Directs HSE activities and program implementation throughout the area of responsibility, directly and through technical managers.

INTERNAL CONTACTS

Technical managers at all levels in area of responsibility; administrative managers and staff at all levels throughout the company as necessary.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS

May interact with the client and subcontractors to ensure they are in compliance with their company's safety program. Occasional interface with OSHA Compliance Officer. May represent company to client representatives, and to contractor’s or owner’s construction manager.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a relevant technical discipline, plus minimum seven years HSE -related technical experience, including at least three years in an HSE management position.
  • Aggressive self-starter with strong organizational skills; excellent presentation skills and ability to train large groups; strong verbal and analytical skills; ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management; ability to observe and perceive any work activity that could become a potential hazard or quality concern; ability to manipulate data in automated information systems such as MS Word, Excel and other computer programs and applications.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification (within two years of assuming position). This requirement may be waived by the HSE Director.
