Who we are looking for:
Atkore is currently searching for a Lab Manager to be based out of our Hobart, IN facility. Reporting to the Director of Industry Affairs, this person will be responsible for overseeing the testing and data recording of new and improved Atkore products to achieve third party certifications on our electrical, safety, and infrastructure products. Furthermore, this individual will manage a small team of direct reports that includes a Lab Engineer and a Lab Intern.
What you’ll do:
- Perform tests to determine UL, CSA, FM, ASTM, IEC, etc. compliance.
- Properly perform testing with respect to the outlined procedure(s) and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with the Lab Engineer and UL engineers to submit test data for markings or audits.
- Participate in New product development teams to explain testing and procedures that will need to be done.
- Collect, analyze, and enter data into test and certification reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
- Coordinate testing with bookings and manage projects for on-time delivery of results.
- Assist design & new product development teams in analyzing data to determine reasons for non-compliant results.
- Ability to assist with design recommendations.
- Conduct regular 1 on 1 meetings with each direct report.
- Provide clear instruction, manage performance, and provide feedback for your team of direct reports on team-wide initiatives and large projects.
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, advanced degree preferred.
- 5 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working in a lab setting preferred.
- Proficiency in Engineering Software (Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
- Understanding of Product standards and Conformity assessment programs (UL, CSA, NSF, etc..)
- Strong Organizational and communication skills
- Familiarity with FEA
Within 3 Months, You’ll:
- Complete your new hire “Immersion” so that you are ready to rock in your new role.
- Have developed relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
- Have become familiar with current offering of Atkore Products
- Familiarize yourself with lab equipment and related protocols
Within 6 Months, You’ll:
- Work closely with the Lab team to achieve third party certifications on our electrical, safety, and infrastructure products.
- Prep relevant reports such as certification reports and manuscripts.
- Learn how to perform tests to determine UL, CSA, FM, ASTM, IEC, etc. compliance
Within 12 Months, You’ll:
- Begin to work independently to achieve third party certifications on all lines of our products.
- Analyze data to determine reasons for non-compliant results in product design and development.
- Properly perform testing with respect to the outlined procedure(s) and safety requirements.
