POSITION SUMMARY
The Monitor Technician provides support to the patient care delivery team by observing the heart rhythms of patients who are receiving cardiac monitoring. The Monitor Technician is responsible for maintaining alarm parameters established by the physician and as instructed by the Registered Nurse (Decentralized Telemetry), and for notifying the Resource Nurse (Centralized Telemetry) and the Registered Nurse of critical changes in patient cardiac rhythms (as per telemetry communication protocol for Centralized Telemetry).
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of dysrhythmia recognition course required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: BLSHCP certification required. Cardiovascular Technician Certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Preferred but not required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens along with infectious diseases. The position requires considerable standing, reaching and walking. Requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
