Position Description:
The Charge Nurse, RN position is responsible for the oversight and management of the Pre-Op and PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) within Atlas Surgery Center of Buckhead, Inc. (Atlas).
The Charge Nurse will report directly to the Director of Nursing and will be an integral part of the surgery center team, which includes supporting and maintaining the clinical operations and patient flow of two operating rooms and one minimal invasive procedure room.
The Charge Nurse will take the leading role in overseeing patient care and quality improvement initiatives throughout the Pre-Operation Testing and Anesthesia department, as well as the Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Recovery department. The Charge Nurse will serve as a clinical educator and mentor, with a keen understanding of evidence-based best practices with regards to quality patient care.
Position Duties:
· Routinely monitors patient care staff for appropriate techniques and adherence to facility policy and procedures and assists with corrective measures as necessary.
· Assigns and delegates tasks to all direct patient care staff, including Staff RNs, Radiology Technologists, Front Desk Coordinator.
· Ensures adequate staffing through daily management of staff's schedule, including breaks.
· Participates in selection, orientation and training of staff as assigned.
· Performs and sets-up in-services regarding equipment, supplies and clinical workflows and decision trees for all staff.
· Assumes primary responsibility in an emergency situation and must maintain competency with all emergency operational procedures, and initiate CPR and emergency measures as needed.
· Supervises and directs facility staff in providing safe and effective vascular access procedures to patients in compliance with standards outlined in the facility policy and procedures manuals, as well as regulations set forth by the company, federal and state agencies.
· Recommends and initiates disciplinary action in conjunction with the Facility’s leadership team.
· Assists Director of Nursing with staff performance evaluations.
· As needed, assist with patient workflow, including providing direct patient care and monitoring pre, intra and post procedure areas. This is considered a working nurse manager position requiring direct patient care and administrative activities.
· Administers medications and IV conscious sedation to patients as directed per physician's orders, and in compliance with company, federal, state, and local regulations.
· Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in the entire facility at all times through regular inspection of facility equipment and operation systems, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance issues.
· Participates in cost control initiatives.
· Assists in the development and revision of any applicable policies and procedures for the facility as directed to ensure continuous process improvement.
· Initiates, documents, and completes ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities including monthly reports and attend meetings as required.
· Manages medications, including ordering, receiving, and inventory control and checking for expired medications, including appropriate recording of controlled substances as required by law.
· Oversees maintenance of usage logs for all medications with appropriate documentation, as well as records of drug disposal.
· Communicates with the pharmacist to assure medication accuracy, including appropriate recording of controlled substances as required by law.
· Performs chart audits on a regular basis.
· Verifies that records for all implanted devices are completed accurately, timely, and maintained according to Facility records management guidelines.
· Acts as the Facility Manager in the absence of the manager or at the direction of organization management and/or the Governing Body.
· Participates in workflow required to maintain compliance with DCH licensing and AAAASF credentialing expectations and requirements.
· Maintain CLIA license with Facility Administrator.
· Additional responsibilities may include focus on one or more departments delegated by the Director of Nursing.
Position Expectations:

· Accountable for driving and delivering outstanding quality patient care by the nursing staff.
· Responsible for aggressively investigating, addressing, and acting on adverse events.
· Complies with HIPPA policies and standards regarding patient information and medical records.
· Participates in all facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans to address any deficiencies identified.
· Ensures operational status of facility equipment and technology, including but not limited, patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices and computers.
· Oversees and ensures accurate and complete documentation of patient treatments from admission to discharge.
· Ensures medical records are accurate, complete, and in compliance with organization policies and procedures prior to discharge of the patient.
· Other duties as assigned within the RN’s scope of practice and state regulations.
Position Metrics:
KPI (Key Performance Indicators) have been designed for the RN staff. The Charge Nurse will also participate in the KPI program already in place. Changes to the KPI program for this position will be announced in advance as necessary.
Position Requirements:
REQUIRED: College degree with a focus in business management, healthcare management, or some aligned degree. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.)
REQUIRED: Current Georgia state licensure without encumbrances; BLS & ACLS certification.
REUQUIRED: Minimum of three years’ experience; preferred in an Ambulatory Surgical Center, or a combination of ASC, surgical, and ICU/CCU experience.
PREFERRED: Technology savvy, working knowledge of medical management software (EHR)
PREFERRED: ASC certification
OTHER: Supervisory or management experience within a medical environment.
Demonstrated management skills necessary to provide leadership and supervision of facility personnel and to ensure the delivery of maximum quality care to all patients.

Physical Demands: frequent sitting, frequent manipulation of documents, frequent typing or use of keyboard, frequent standing and walking for limited distances within the facility, limited lifting floor to overhead of less than 15 pounds. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
