Overview

Job Summary

Verifies patient insurance benefits and sets new patient appointments and tasks involving patient accounts. Determines necessity for obtaining referrals and financial counseling.



Essential Functions

  • Takes new patient phone calls and obtains new patient demographic and insurance information. Determines availability of records per protocol.
  • Establishes system of ongoing referrals. Reviews daily physician schedules and evaluates need for referrals. Schedules new patient appointment according to physician template.
  • Verifies patient eligibility and insurance benefits related to the treatment of cancer or hematological disorders. Obtains referral authorizations and documents into database.
  • Assists in financial counseling of patient, including drug replacement program information and other assistance to the patient.

Physical Requirements

This position requires sitting most of the work day. Must be capable of operating in a fast-paced, high volume atmosphere. Must have good vision, hearing and communication skills. Work requires long periods of keyboarding and telephone usage. Occasional lifting of supplies and documents.



Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Must have a 2 years experience in a medical setting or referral experience.
