College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation’s largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG’s expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America’s children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

This position assists in filling liquid nitrogen tanks and sterilizing glassware on a daily basis to ensure accuracy and cleanliness of instruments prior to being used by researchers.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:
Wash and dry laboratory glassware. Sterilize glassware, surgical instruments, and solutions etc. Maintain daily log book for sterilization.
Dispense deionized and reverse osmosis water for critical research experimentation. Maintain Milli Q water system by checking and changing water system when needed for all filters.
Pick up, transport, and deliver all tanks for liquid nitrogen refill ranging in weight from 5lbs - 240lbs for the research enterprise. Monitor liquid nitrogen tank at the loading dock to call in refills.
Monitor the biohazard freezer on 3rd floor of CB building with the red carts and once the 45lbs -50lbs containers is filled transport them to trailer in the rear of the loading dock for pick up.
Replace empty red containers in freezer.
Participate in special cleaning duties as directed by supervisor. Pick up special order items from the warehouse. Keep inventory of department supplies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from a state or federal accrediting organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in sterilization and filling of liquid nitrogen tanks.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Strong prioritization and organizational skills
Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs
Ability to push/pull a cart with a load weighing 250 lbs
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Good hand/eye coordination and good dexterity to include arm/leg strength

Shift/Salary/Benefits


Shift: Days; Monday - Friday

Pay Grade: 6

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
