- BSN Preferred
- Current CNOR Certification or obtained within 3 months

SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
The Practice Specialist functions in the perioperative setting in a leadership role as a clinical expert and perioperative consultant. This role is accountable for collaborating with staff, management, surgeons, and other healthcare teams to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence based care strategies. The Practice Specialist functions in the role with a high level of competence in the care of surgical patients in the perioperative arena and coordinates and drives quality, regulatory and practice changes within the surgical arena.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

- Remains current with evidence based practice for perioperative nursing.
- Leads interdisciplinary team members to improve patient care.
- Mentors OR staff and promotes professional growth of all staff.
- Assesses and monitors QA initiatives and drive change based upon data.
- Identifies needs in the perioperative areas to elevate the level of care provided to the surgical patient.
- Evaluates and implements changes in patient care to support evidence-based practice, patient satisfaction, and improve quality and efficiencies.
- Maintains knowledge of AORN Guidelines, regulatory requirements, and practice accrediting body’s requirements.
- Participates in unit based shared decision-making councils and appropriate hospital committees.
- Organizes and oversees perioperative observers and students.
- Develops, maintains and implements policies related to perioperative nursing.
- Serves as an expert and clinical resource for nursing staff, allied health staff, residents, interns, and other patient caregivers.
- Reviews, monitors, and leads changes in best practice in accordance with AORN’s Guidelines and evidence based research.
- Integrates research into the perioperative clinical environment through the implementation of evidence-based practice.
- Collaborates with surgeons, staff and other members of the healthcare team to problem solve and make system changes for process improvement.
- Holds self and staff accountable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Sits, stands, and moves frequently throughout the work schedule. Lifting, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, and climbing stairs. Must have ability to handle all situations with emotional stability.

Subject to varying and unpredictable situations and frequent interruptions.
