What are the responsibilities and job description for the Navigator position at Autism Alliance of Michigan?
PURPOSE OF JOB: Responsible for direct interaction with the public, including persons affected, caregivers, and providers, in order to facilitate navigation of statewide services and support for needs related to Autism.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
● Complete intake and resource identification of assigned MiNavigator referrals.
● Gain and maintain a working knowledge of the internal and external software used towards MiNavigator contacts:
- Apricot 360
- AAoM’s Resource Directory
- AAoM’s Community Calendar
- AAoM’s Training Calendar
● Maintain a knowledge of appropriate resources for varying needs of Autism. Bring forward newly identified options for review and inclusion in AAoM’s Resource Directory.
● Manage active cases with MiNavigator contacts, working towards a resolution of the presented need. Maintain timely documentation of significant case activity.
● Demonstrate cultural competency across a diverse group of persons, taking into account varying communication needs and differing cultural backgrounds, all towards the aim of providing effective and empathetic service.
● Participate in internal and external trainings as assigned. Work with leadership in identifying individual training as needed, to target own needs related to greater service delivery.
● Participate in weekly Navigator Team meetings. Be prepared to share case reviews and problem solve complex case needs with peers.
● Work with AAoM’s MiNavigator Specialists when case escalations are identified for complex needs. Be prepared to offer concise summaries of needs as needed, and conduct as needed follow up between MiNavigator Contacts and Specialists.
● Regular participation will be required in the following additional meetings:
- AAoM All Staff Meeting
- Pillar Staff Meeting
- Cross collaborative pillar meetings as needed
- External collaborative meetings as needed.
● Assist with special projects as assigned by leadership.
- Seeking a candidate with fluency in English and Spanish, both in verbal and written formats of communication. Cultural experience with Spanish speaking families in Michigan is preferred.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
● Master’s Degree in human services related field with at least 1 year of experience in serving the Autistic community OR Bachelor’s Degree in human services related field with at least 3 years of experience in serving the Autistic community.
● Demonstrated knowledge of the needs and characteristics of Autism, as well as aligned and relevant resources available throughout the state.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES :
● None Required
Significant consideration will be given to those who have:
● A certification or license specific to Autism related services (e.g., LMSW, BCBA, OT, SLP, etc.).
● Significant experience related to insurance and credentialing as related to Autism based services for providers and/or subscribers.
● Language fluency and cultural experience to be used towards Spanish speaking MiNavigator Contacts.
● Significant professional or personal experiences related to Autism or its service delivery. This should be demonstrated through review of a resume and during the interview process. This experience may be considered in place of specific education experience.
TRAVEL REQUIRED : Ability to travel within the state of Michigan for training and meetings
WORK HOURS : 40 hours per week; Availability during business hours of 8 am to 5 pm is required. Availability for some evening and weekend events is also expected.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds up to 10 times per day; ability to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer; alternate sitting and standing, including walking short distances
