Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for organizing and scheduling staff and directing the day-today operations of all Auto Accessory operations: rail, yard, and accessory shop functions. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality installation of parts onto vehicles, loading of vehicles onto rail cars, and receipt/movement/storage of vehicles through efficient productivity of the work crews. This position coordinates activities of associates under the direction of the Terminal Manager to ensure a well­ coordinated, productive operation.


Essential Functions, Duties & Tasks:

  • ​​Responsible for the daily scheduling of personnel in order to complete receipt/movement/storage, rail loading, pre-delivery inspections, and installation of parts onto vehicles in a productive cost-efficient manner.
  • Direct the facility's day-to-day activities.
    • Oversee vehicle receipt/movement/storage.
    • Oversee pre-delivery inspections.
    • Oversee customer parts; receipt/movement/ storage
    • Oversee rail loading operations
  • Assign personnel to job locations.
  • Ensure personnel have the support, tools, and supplies needed for production, including the purchase and inventory of consumable materials
  • Conduct audits and make suggestions for corrective action as needed
  • Documents performance issues and coordinates all correction action with Terminal and HR Managers
  • Observe and assist where needed.
  • Ensures all AWC policies and procedures are followed
  • Daily communication with leads, other staff, and office personnel to determine staffing, supply and operational needs, and ensures these needs are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring new personnel receive the appropriate training
  • Report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms and communicates the procedure to all appropriate customers/vendors and AWC personnel
  • Conducts accident investigations
  • Responsible for safety programs in order to provide a safe, clean workplace for all personnel and within the regulations of local, state, federal, and regulatory standards
  • Conducts time studies and worker-minute reports and evaluates associates according to standards
  • Assists in the facility budget process
  • May interface with the Customer to ensure quality and customer satisfaction with direction from Terminal Manager
  • Conducts labor/materials cost analysis and coordinates rates with Terminal Manager
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
  • Implement and maintain quality processes, tracking, and auditing metrics for accessories installations and develop new programs to enhance and/or improve relationships between customer, vendors, and AWC
  • Participate in weekly Quality Meetings with Customer and AWC

  • Write A3, 8D's (Eight Disciplines), or other approved method for customer to show AWC's reaction, containment, and resolution to internal and external issues if applicable

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • ​Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals such as the AAR Manual
  • Ability to effectively supervise and delegate work to others
  • Ability to communicate deficiencies not in line with standard procedures in a diplomatic and appropriate manner
  • Work with a great deal of autonomy
  • Ability to keep confidential any documents and information seen, heard or generated in the performance of job duties
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions
  • Must work outdoors 60% of the shift
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be computer literate with Word, Excel, Outlook and Time & Attendance software and be able to learn proprietary AWC VIPs software.

Education, Experience & Minimum Requirements:

  • ​Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
  • Must be computer literate
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of auto processing experience (rail loading/unloading experience preferred)
  • 3 years experience as a supervisor or lead.
  • Experience working in non-union and unionized environments.
  • Excellent leadership, management and organizational skills
  • Good driving record and must have and maintain a valid State Driver's license.
  • Ability to drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions
  • Must treat all individuals with respect and dignity
  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to work in team-orientated culture with strong communication skills
  • Must be customer-focused, results orientated, have solid decision-making abilities
  • Must be able to resolve conflict with the ability to build relationships
  • Must be adaptable and use effective coaching and mentoring skills

Preferred Requirements:

Associate's degree or higher preferred
