OVERVIEW OF ROLE:
As the Automation/Controls Engineer you will be responsible for all in plant automation devices such as Allen Bradley PLC's, HMI's and VFD's. As a key member of the Maintenance department, the incumbent will have the opportunity to provide their expertise to a dynamic and growing organization. You will also have ownership of all data collection for MES, and SCADA systems. You will complete an assessment of current systems and determine the number of control technicians required to support operations. This role will require building a team of direct report Automation/Control technicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain all equipment programs database.
Act as a technical resource to a variety of cross functional teams to help improve processes.
Recommend component replacement or upgrades when items become obsolete or are at end of life.
Standardize components to limit inventory burden.
Provide technical documentation and training to maintenance department on component replacements and/or troubleshooting.
Maintain building SCADA systems to ensure all are functioning as designed.
Continuously improve the reliability of current systems
Evaluate the requirements for an Automation/Controls team.
Lead, train, coach, and hold accountable team of direct reports.
Other job duties as assigned
Since this is a food facility you will need to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) must be worn while on the production floor and this is supplied by the company.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus 5 years of direct experience and demonstrated ability in programming a variety of industrial controls required
Experience programming and supporting RSLogix PLCs required
Experience with Ignition software preferred
Strong understanding of automated manufacturing equipment and programming required
Proven experience with troubleshooting equipment problems and perform complex system tests required
Proficient in MS 365
Experience with databases, process monitoring systems and MES (manufacturing execution system) / information systems
Experience in a food processing & manufacturing environment is a plus
Experience with building a team required
Proven experience with leading, training, and holding direct reports accountable.
