What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Engineering position at Autonomic?

Autonomic’s open, cloud-based platform — the Transportation Mobility Cloud – will connect the diverse components of urban mobility systems — connected vehicles, autonomous cars, mass transit, pedestrians, city infrastructure and service providers — with the goal of orchestrating a safer, more efficient and sustainable transportation network.

Our Directors are both people and technical leaders – you'll be responsible for the overall technical direction of our Foundation services, as well as the growth and development of the engineers teams and leaders who comprise those teams. You'll also work closely with peers in Product and Engineering across many different Autonomic teams and technology partners to help us create the future of transportation and mobility.

Job Description

  • Lead geographically dispersed teams
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners including senior management, other engineering teams, product management, and our field teams
  • Develop talent through effective mentoring and coaching
  • Foster a strong development culture biased towards taking action and responsibility for outcomes
  • Manage delivery risk and ensure the reliability and security of our core platform.
  • Develop an understanding of current business issues and be able to provide timely advice to Engineering leadership
  • Evangelize the product vision internally and externally. Be able to represent the company, product, and team at all levels

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of professional experience in engineering with a track record of technical innovation and leading engineering teams
  • 5 years of professional experience in engineering management with responsibilities including hiring, performance management, leadership development, and general team leadership
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle, including software design, development tools, release and version control, continuous integration, security practices, testing methodologies, and ongoing operations
  • Familiarity and experience with Automation, Tools Development, Site Reliability Engineering, Observability and DevOps practices
  • In depth knowledge of developing software using modern cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a tech company with an established reputation for driving cutting edge products.
  • Proven track record of recruiting and developing top technical talent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing remote engineering teams.
  • Experience with Automotive, IoT or other real time systems.
