WILDSAM / MAGAZINE STAFF EDITOR JOB DESCRIPTION
As staff editor for Wildsam’s books and digital content and our magazine, you’ll take a leading creative and organizational role in crafting and delivering projects that speak to our core missions of discovering place, illuminating culture and providing readers moments of joy, insight and wonder. Specific areas of responsibility and duties will include:
WILDSAM BOOKS
- Acting as lead editor for approx. 3 new Wildsam print titles per year
- Building and managing the freelance and creative teams behind each of those titles: illustrators, essayists and contributing writers
- Planning book content in collaboration with the EIC and Managing Editor
- Planning and conducting research travel to support the titles
- Interviewing, researching, writing and editing across all book sections
- Leading the creation of a network of community supporters and friends-of-the-project related to each title
- Working with the Copy Editor, Designer and Managing Editor to bring each title to press in accordance with its deadline schedule
- Working with the Brand, Social and Sales teams to launch the book
- Participating in book content updates, reprints and second editions as needed
- Assisting other staff editors with book content as needed
THE MAGAZINE
- Acting as lead editor for a monthly magazine department or similar role
WILDSAM DIGITAL CONTENT
- Acting as assigning editor on feature stories [approx ~1/mon] created for Wildsam’s website, social and email channels
- Working with the Creative and Design teams to execute editorial ideas in photo, video and audio formats
- Writing and editing short-form content for digital channels
NOTE: In our future state, we foresee substantial overlap and synergy between all these formats and platforms—features that run both in Wildsam books and the magazine, Wildsam digital features that also serve the magazine’s audience, etc.
