Role: HVDC RTDS Engineer
Location : Raleigh , NC (Onsite)
Duration: Full Time
As a System Engineer for Real-Time Simulation of HVDC Systems you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Raleigh.
- Planning, installation, commissioning and documentation of real-time simulators
- Project-specific configuration and operation of real-time simulators within the scope of control & protection engineering and factory tests for HVDC applications
- Execution of factory tests and preparation of test documentation as part of project handling and development of new plant systems together with the test team
- Technical handling of real-time simulators for external customers in connection with delivery and commissioning on site
- Collaboration in the preparation of quotations in the form of concept and customer clarifications and preparation of quotation documents
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
- University degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power engineering
- 5-10 years' experience
- Initial experience in the areas of power converter technology (HVDC), high-voltage technology, digital simulation technology as well as control and automation technology
- Knowledge of real-time simulation systems, preferably with RTDS or comparable (such as Hypersim, e-megasim) and of simulation tools, preferably of EMTDC, EMTP-RV and/or Matlab/Simulink
- Fluent English, written and spoken and preferably advanced German language skills
- Willingness to travel on business and abroad to deliver the system to the customer
- Initiative and motivation to learn, outstanding team and collaboration skills, enthusiasm to dive deeper into the field of Energy Transmission
Desired Skills:
- Experience in power generation industry
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Mostly Office Environments, Occasional Shop Floor involvement.
- Substantial amounts of telephone and computer work.
- Heavily Regulated Industries with strict adherence to procedures.
- Flexibility to meet business deadlines by staying late or arriving early.
- Typical 8 hour days plus lunch / 40 hour weeks / core (required) hours are 9AM to 4PM
- Ability to use personal transportation to visit customer locations.
