What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Tax Operations position at Avantor?
Avantor is looking for a dedicated and creative Director of Tax Operations to optimize our Tax team, delivering results against some of the most complex business and technology initiatives.
The Director of Tax Operations will perform a wide range of tax related functions associated with completing the company's tax return; development and implementation of tax planning strategies, and the completion of the tax aspects of financial reporting (ASC 740).
What we're looking for
- Education: Requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Experience: 12 years of experience in Corporate Income Tax
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications - Word; Excel, & PowerPoint
- Knowledge of OneSource Provision software.Qlikview, SAP, and/or Hyperion preferred
How you will create an impact
- Develop, document, and implement processes and techniques for recurring tasks to improve the Tax Department performance and SOX control environment in the income tax area
- Oversee and complete the quarterly tax reporting for income taxes for inclusion in the Company's Form 10Q; including the complete reconciliations for tax accounts, providing all materials needed for reporting disclosures and other support required by external auditors
- Oversee and complete the annual tax reporting for income taxes for inclusion in the Company's Form 10K; including the complete reconciliations for tax accounts, providing all materials needed for reporting disclosures, maintenance of annual controls, and other support required by external auditors
- Oversee the gathering and documenting of book-tax differences used in the worldwide tax provision and domestic and Canadian return reporting
- Work with local finance directors to manage their group income tax reporting, support local tax compliance and statutory reporting needs, and support centralized documentation and disclosure activity throughout the group
- Quantification, and documentation of tax positions and strategies in connection with Research & Planning team for purposes of tax reporting
- Demonstrate an understanding of complex income tax accounting concepts in both an Internal Revenue and FASB context including pensions, revenue recognition, and purchase accounting
- Manage offshore team responsible for US and Canadian transaction taxes as well as related audits
- Liase with EU transaction tax team on best practices and controversy/audit management
- Demonstrate an understanding of sophisticated tax concepts and actively pursue increased tax knowledge through assignments and current tax developments
- Oversee the completion of various Canadian, US Federal and State Income and Franchise Tax returns and audits by managing internal resources and external vendors.
- Manage various aspects of the tax team to complete recurring or special projects including the leveraging and deployment of tax relevant technology, group financial analytic tools, and the use of offshore resources
- Identify, develop and deploy best practices
- Establish/maintain long-term working relationships with internal clients and colleagues.
- Share knowledge to develop professionally and enhance service delivery.
- Facilitate communication and provide ample assistance to team members.
