Position Summary:
Support the HR function of Iowa sites in coordination with administrative and management staff, reporting to the Director of Human Resources for the group. Focus will be on recruitment and retention, payroll support, benefits orientations, employee presentations, and general administrative functions related to human resources management.
Responsibilities / Duties:
- Responsible for coordinating the HR function in the Waukon and Fredericksburg, Iowa plants as directed, with a focus on process improvement and goals aligned with improving HR presence and processes; travel between sites regularly and as needed
- Focus on recruitment, benefits, payroll, onboarding, offboarding, and employee communications
- Goals assigned will include employee retention and engagement, ensuring an adequate pool of job candidates for open positions, and ensuring a positive workplace culture including communication with employees about our ESOP
- Assist AVEKA Nutra Processing (Waukon, Iowa) and AVEKA Manufacturing (Fredericksburg, Iowa) with proper input of timesheets, working with supervisors to approve, enter PTO, enter on-call time, and prepare timesheets for processing
- Become very familiar with Paycom payroll/HRIS system administration
- Enter data into the Payroll/HRIS system to keep employee information up to date
- Administrate benefit vendor invoices, checking accuracy and approving payments
- Presents recruitment presentations as directed, introducing the company at job fairs and to potential new recruits
- Presents new hire orientations including overview of the company and the group, company policies, basic initial job training and instruction, and safety training materials in person and by assigning training through Mineral training platform
- Assists in annual Benefits Open Enrollment presentations, and ensures new employees enroll in benefits and have all information necessary to choose the best plans
- Processes employee new hires, transfers, promotions, and separations by handling paperwork and coordinating with appropriate HR or Accounting staff
- First point of contact for Iowa employee separations, coordinating with managers and HR/Accounting staff on last checks, PTO payout, Cobra, benefits, and related
- Track new hires, turnover, and other HR metrics
- Ensure proper record keeping and personnel files at each site including archive timelines
- Assist with Workers Compensation tracking and administration
- Handle confidential information and personal health information with the utmost care and professionalism
- Handle employee problems, questions, or complaints and communicate with HR Director as necessary, escalating and ensuring HR team approach
- Regular communication with HR Director to discuss all ongoing employee situations, trends, and issues such as workplace injuries, medical and personal leaves of absence, workers’ compensation claims, return to work, light duty, ADA accommodations and processes, FMLA, workplace culture, and grievances
- Assist with coordination of annual performance review process and related merit pay administration
- Assist with administration of Safety training and related when necessary
- Work with Northeast Iowa Community College to set up employee training and utilize 260E funding when available
- Attend job fairs and other local events as necessary to ensure our brands are known and positive in the community
- Other duties as apparent or assigned
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or highly related
- Experience in Human Resources, Office Management, Customer Service, Employee Relations, Recruitment, Benefits, Payroll, or other highly related field
- 3 - 5 years of experience in related field as noted above, HR preferred
- Knowledge of HR duties and/or highly trainable
- OR equivalent education and experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of EXCEL spreadsheets and Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to work independently and safely
- Productive and attentive to detail with above average math and calculation skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work with efficiency
- Ability to occasionally conduct meetings as early as 6am for production staff
- Above average ability to communicate in writing and orally
- Skill with presenting PowerPoints, videos, and training materials
- Understands basic principles of adult learning
- Customer facing skills (employees are the customers)
- Valid drivers’ license required and ability to travel between sites
