Senior Audiovisual (AV) Design Engineer

Description

The Senior Audiovisual (AV) Design Engineer has extensive knowledge of architectural, facility and systems design, and the project management process of the net-centric audiovisual industry.  This position is an integral member of the project team, and is primarily responsible for providing the needs analysis, project design, planning, estimating, engineering, and client consultation for a project. This position also provides sales support by creating proposals, drawings, and requirement documentation. Their relationship to the client bridges the design and construction teams. Confidence, professionalism, accuracy, and good presentation, communication, interpersonal, and mentorship skills are attributes required for success.

Requirements

• Associate degree in technology, or equivalent experience, though a Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred.
• 8 years of previous experience providing design and engineering support in AV/IT industry.
• AVIXA CTS-D certified.
• Well versed in the core Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Must have advanced experience producing drawings and requirement documentation for inclusion into architectural design packages, advanced knowledge of communicating drawing needs to the CAD staff, advanced proficiency testing and commissioning AV and IT for AV systems, working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
• The ideal candidate will possess a professional level of verbal, written and listening communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations, negotiate effectively, develop high quality and grammatically correct documents for customers, and use proven techniques for determining hidden customer needs; and will be creative, innovative, able to think on-the-fly, and highly collaborative. 
• Preferred are a CompTIA Network and BICSI RCDD certification.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Work closely with the project team to prospect, qualify, and close new design-build and support jobs for the company.
• Lead the needs analysis effort and interpret customer requirements for the Account Executive and other team members.
• Prepare cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents, by consulting with other professional and technical personnel including architectural design team members.
• Assist the project team with creating budget estimates that include required labor resources, equipment, materials, and a milestone schedule. Define the scope, and identify any technical risks associated with the project.
• Lead or provide value engineering exercises to match system performance with client budget expectations.
• Lead the development and delivery of product demonstrations and/or a “Proof of Concept” as needed.
• On bid projects, assist with bid reviews, take-offs, and submittal preparation.
• On projects requiring specific test procedures and submittals, lead required testing and checkout procedures per the specifications.
• Lead the job completion effort to obtain a Final Acceptance approval from clients.
• Follow safety standards as required by OSHA and management.
• Strive to maintain a 75% billable/chargeable workload by providing design, project management and technical work efforts.
