Job Summary
Avient Corporation is seeking a technical intern during summer 2025 at the corporate headquarters in Avon Lake, OH. This is a paid internship.
Essential Functions
- The individual will work with a senior scientist to carry out polymer analysis using FT-IR, XRF, thermal analysis, physical property and fire science test methods as needed.
- The individual must be able to perform assigned tasks in accordance with good safety practices.
- Respond to internal and external requests
- Train in other areas of Corporate Technology
- Often work with fellow members of technology team to obtain a complete understanding of the solution to an analysis
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- The candidate must be working towards a BS degree in science, engineering, materials science or a related field
Additional Qualifications
- Must have excellent laboratory skills, i.e. be willing to handle chemicals, equipment, delicate instrumentation, etc. carefully and safely
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and bring projects to completion in a timely fashion
- Must be flexible and versatile in order to handle changing laboratory needs and to serve a variety of functions or technologies as the business demands
- Must have competent PC computer skills, e.g. Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint
- Must be able to effectively communicate one-on-one and in small group situations
- Must have manual dexterity sufficient to use wide variety of standard lab equipment and ability to operate standard office equipment
- Must have skills in manipulation of data, mathematical formulae, calibration procedures, record keeping, and mechanical aptitude
- Must have the ability to learn quickly to utilize software related to specific techniques

Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally handle up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Requires use of safety equipment as dictated by work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc
- Work is inside and typical noise level fluctuates from moderate to loud
- Repetitively exposed to moving mechanical parts or airborne particles
- Occasionally exposed to vibration. May occasionally perform tasks involving toxic or caustic chemicals, and operate instruments that pose a risk of electrical shock.
