Job Summary:
The Logistics Manager is responsible for coordinating the transportation of materials and supplies into the company and for the transportation of finished product to customers in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Knowledge:
- Transportation- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Education and Training- Knowledge of principles and methods for training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups
Tasks:
1. Hires, orients, trains, and develops employees in his/her area of responsibility.
2. Develops, gains approval of and implements goals, objectives and budgets for his/her area of responsibility.
3. Supervises and directs the efforts of employees in his/her area of responsibility.
4. Directs distribution center operation to ensure achievement of cost, productivity, accuracy, or timeliness objectives.
5. Resolves problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports or exports, or customer issues.
6. Analyzes all aspects of corporate logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or supplies.
7. Negotiates transportation rates or services.
8. Directs or coordinate comprehensive logistical or reverse logistical functions for product life cycles, including acquisition, distribution, internal allocation, delivery, recycling, reuse, or final disposal of resources.
9. Analyzes the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers.
10. Directs inbound or outbound logistics operations, such as transportation or warehouse activities, safety performance, or logistics quality management.
11. Establishes or monitor specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems.
12. Participates in carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation.
13. Monitors product import or export processes to ensure compliance with regulatory or legal requirements.
14. Ensures carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery.
15. Evaluates employees in his/her area of responsibility in an objective and timely manner.
16. Identifies the need for disciplinary action, initiates appropriate discipline and follows through accordingly.
17. Schedules and routes Company trucks between plants and suppliers.
18. Maintains compliance with all DOT regulations.
19. Coordinates maintenance on vehicles.
20. Establishes specifications of tractors and trailers and recommends buy or lease.
21. Analyzes and coordinates rail transportation as needed.
22. Receives orders for outbound shipments of finished product.
23. Researches and negotiates trucking fees.
24. Contracts with commercial carriers to obtain quality, timeliness and cost effectiveness.
25. Schedules truckers to plants and destinations.
26. Maintains thorough communications with carriers, plants and customers.
27. Ensures that carriers have appropriate insurance coverage.
28. Reviews and approves invoices for trucking services.
29. Schedules inbound trucks of recycled material.
30. Improves self in any way possible to enhance job performance.
31. Promotes the Company, its Mission, Values, programs and achievements to the public and other employees.
32. Identifies organizational problems and opportunities for improvement and brings solutions and suggestions to management’s attention.
