What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Director position at Avon Recreation and Parks Department?
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the overall operation and management of the Sycamore Hills Recreation Area; including but not limited to the administration, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive aquatic program at the Sycamore Hills Pool.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages and ensures the efficient operation of the pool facility in regard to staff recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision. Also, manages the physical facilities pertaining to water testing, determining capacity, rescue operations.
- Exercises tact and diplomacy and, when required, firmness for effective relationships with supervisors, the general public and subordinates.
- Communicates with the Director in the pre-season to work on recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of the staff; scheduling, and program planning.
- Oversees, supervises, and evaluates the American Red Cross swim lesson program and instructors. Manages on-site swim lessons registrations and swim tests as needed. Coordinates with Recreation and Parks Department on enrollments, changes, refunds and wait lists.
- Supervises and shares responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the overall safety of the facility. Coordinates with Department of Public Works Grounds Crew on supplies, chemicals and maintenance.
- Maintains, all pertinent records in respect to daily facility usage. Prepares and implements staff work schedules. Responsible for monitoring time clock data for accuracy of payroll accounts, missed punches and approving employees’ time for payroll.
- Provides orientation and develops and maintains ongoing, in-service training, for the lifeguards, swim instructors, coaches, and other allied personnel. Conducts periodic simulated rescues with the lifeguard staff.
- Submits written recommendations, season ending inventory, and an overall evaluation to the Director on the facility/aquatic program at the conclusion of the season.
- Any other related duty that the Director deems necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the Recreation and Parks Department.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic repair on the equipment.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, of lifesaving and first-aid techniques.
- Ability to instruct, assign, supervise, evaluate and discipline staff personnel in the performance of their duties.
- Must have the ability to work harmoniously with the pool staff, participants, and the general public while firmly enforcing facility regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 21 years of age with some experience in an aquatics program.Preferred: Experience in municipality or aquatic facility.LICENSE(S) AND/OR CERTIFICATION:
American Red Cross CPR/AED, Standard First Aid, Valid Driver’s License. Willingness to obtain Aquatic related certifications.
