What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solution Architect position at AWL?
We are seeking qualified candidates for a Solution Architect position. This position will provide technical expertise and leadership through coaching and mentorship.
The Solution Architect’s responsibilities include gathering requirements and functional specifications, running code reviews, define application architecture and assessing the current software systems in place in order to identify areas in need of improvement, and overseeing development teams. The Solution’s Architect will be responsible for ‘future proofing’ the technological needs and designs for the company. The person for this role will have the best chance of success having knowledge and ability to play a part in bringing the company to the next level utilizing containerized approaches. The Solution Architect will also play a pivotal roll in strategizing APIs into a cloud-based framework.
Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities for this position include the following:
- Building and integrating information systems to meet the company’s needs.
- Assessing the enterprise systems architecture currently in place and working with technical staff to recommend solutions to improve it.
- Identifying technical complications before they arise.
- Providing supervision and guidance to development teams.
- Continually researching current and emerging technologies and proposing changes where needed.
- Informing various stakeholders about any problems with the current technical solutions being implemented.
- Assessing the business impact that certain technical choices have.
- Providing updates to stakeholders on product development processes.
- Assist in the collection and documentation of user's requirements, development of user stories, estimates and work plans
- Ensures projects are completed within committed time and budget and are integrated with other software applications.
- Coordinate with a variety of stakeholders to prioritize projects, enhancement requests and strategic initiatives.
- Develops and maintains relationships with cross-functional and internal customer organizations.
- Review code, define branch merges and strategy for code version and code control.
- Required to write code to supplement team needs in complicated or necessary situations.
- Provide technical, systematical, or hypothetical prototyping as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Solution Architect will have technical supervision over code and solution designs. No team supervision expected.

- Have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions, present conclusions to your team, direct manager and other departmental or Company peers, if required
- Use basic math skills including, have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio and percentages if needed for this role. Calculate figures and amounts where necessary.
- Read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience and/or training; minimum of eight (8) years of experience within information technology; 6 years working in various technical environments including programming experience, preferably in building enterprise web solutions; 3 year experience integration enterprise solutions using Services and/or APIs.
Computer Skills
- 8 years working in various technical environments including programming experience, preferably in building enterprise web solutions.
- 3 year experience integration enterprise solutions using Services and/or APIs.
- Ability to read/write C#
- Understanding / Experience in Agile Development a plus. Experience with Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, and standard Microsoft development environments a plus
- Experience in an environment leveraging containers a plus
This position will be allowed to work from home as defined by the company. This is a limited remote position. In order to be considered for this position, you MUST live in one of the following States, MO, KS, TX, OK, NV, IL. There is no Company sponsored relocation for this role.
