Nextonic is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Proteomics Scientist
to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Technical Requirements:
Global-scale identification and quantification of proteins and post-translational modifications involved in diseases for the development of biomarkers and mechanistic-based studies.- Analysis of data derived from multiple acquisition strategies including the development of spectral libraries and hybrid approaches to the analysis of non-mammalian systems.
- Leverage multiple tools for data analysis and statistical analysis
- Collaborate with scientists on experimental design
- Communicate results of proteomic analyses to principal investigators and interact productively and constructively with scientists performing mass spectrometry proteomics experiments
- Produce detailed findings, figures, and presentations for discussion with principal investigators and mass spectrometry scientists
- Perform proteomics data analyses and be able to write scripts to manipulate data and perform statistical tests on results
- Summarize and present key results at project reviews meetings and contribute and write manuscripts for peer review publications
- Assist with training investigators in best practices
- Keep up to date on emerging bioinformatics tools and solutions
Specific Qualifications:
Possession of Master’s degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in bioinformatics, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, or other related discipline with specific training in proteomics- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- At least one (1) year of MS-based data analysis experience in mass spectrometry proteomics
- A basic understanding of bioinformatic methods to interpret and validate global and targeted mass spectrometry proteomics studies including statistics
- Experience using MS software suites for proteomics workflow analysis
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust security clearance
- Experience with multivariate data analysis techniques and cluster analysis
- Experience with programming languages or platforms such as Python, R, or Perl
- Experience analyzing global and/or targeted proteomic data
- Experience with producing and interpreting proteomic graphical displays, such as heat maps and volcano plots
- Ph.D. in computational science/bioinformatics, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, or related fields
- Postdoctoral experience analyzing proteomic data
