Software Engineering Manager

Overview

Axle is seeking a new Software Engineering Manager with strong technical leadership experience to lead a team of software engineers to support a new portfolio of work for the company. The manager will be responsible for the management and development of the existing team and identifying new resources as demand grows. The manager will also assist in a hands-on capacity when required and will have input to the strategic direction of software engineering for the programs they and their team support. 

As a leader of the development team the selected candidate will participate in all stages of the application development cycle- from initial prototype, discovery, designing, development, testing, and debugging through the deployment from stage to production ensuring operational readiness.  

Responsibilities: 

• Manage multiple teams of software engineers (4-7 on average), including task planning and code reviews. 

• Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment. 

• Be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects. 

• Contribute technically to projects. 

• Work closely with customers to ensure we're building the best products. 

• Own the timely delivery of high-quality products.

Qualifications: 

•    10 years of relevant industry experience, with 5 years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience including career and professional development skills. 

• Must have experience managing multiple development teams.  

• Experience building and operating large-scale online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems. 

• Strong Knowledge in the following areas: cloud computing, NoSQL, Angular, TypeScript, Node-based application development, and online service development. 

• Clear understanding of design patterns, Experience designing, implementing and using RESTful Web Services with Service-Oriented Architecture. Prior extensive hands-on development experience is desirable.  

• Knowledge and experience with various JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, D3, testing frameworks, etc. 

• Proven track record of shipping multiple products.

• Candidate must be results-orientation, self-motivated, and resourceful and be able to function in a fast-paced competitive environment. 

• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity  

• Solid problem-solving skills 

• Must lead by experience 

• Big Data experience is a plus
