Your Impact:
The Proposal Manager will demonstrate expertise in developing persuasive responses to RFPs, tenders, and other competitive sales opportunities, in order to win competitive business for Axon. This expertise will include proposal management, writing, and capture management skills. It will also include applying best practice proposal management principles to lead proposal teams, effectively leveraging proposal tools and standard content, and ensuring that proposal deliverables are responsive and compliant to customer requirements.
You will lead the proposal process from bid/no-bid decision through proposal award. This will include analyzing customer specifications (RFPs, RFIs, tenders, etc.) for appropriate solution type, developing response structure and contents, writing the draft response, finalizing response content, and delivering the final document to the customer. It will also involve engaging the appropriate members from sales, engineering, product, legal, and other stakeholder teams, defining their involvement in the proposal development process, and coordinating their reviews, inputs, and edits throughout throughout the proposal award. As a key part of this role, you will also gather relevant information regarding each customer, Axon’s solution and services, and our competitors to support Axon’s competitive posture in each RFP.
As a member of Axon’s Proposal Team, you will research our products, customers, and competitors, and disseminate that information to the team. You will also share training/knowledge resources, help define process, and support broader Proposal Team initiatives. This will include domestic and international proposal submissions, content creation and management, and improvements to team efficiency.
What You’ll Do
Location: Remotely from the United States
Reports to: Director, Global Proposals
- Analyze incoming RFPs in order to build compliant, strategic, and accurate responses that reflect Axon's mission and product capabilities.
- Work closely with internal subject matter experts, including other members of the Proposal Team, product managers and engineers, professional services personnel, leadership, sales representatives, and others to ensure that their expertise is leveraged in the proposal development process, and reflected in the end submission to the customer.
- Program manage deliverables and deadlines to multiple stakeholders by planning, setting milestones, and coordinating all aspects of the proposal response in advance of the due date.
- Use and apply detailed playbooks, workflow/standard requirements, key corporate information, and tailored content based on custom deployments or new product workflows.
- Ensure proposal compliance with customer requirements, internal review processes, and SME/leadership approval processes..
- Ensure that proposal submissions meet Axon's benchmarks for quality, responsiveness, and persuasiveness.
- Coordinate proposal printing, submission and delivery, accounting for any specific requirements.
- Assist International proposal team members in the event of high volume and/or coverage, requiring early morning or late evening calls with international sales team members.
- Serve as a second level reviewer for proposals prepared by other team members to ensure alignment with sales strategy, win themes, and other requirements.
- Contribute to the content library by adding new information in a standardized way, identifying new content needs and writing/developing content as needed in working with subject matter experts.
- Mentor and train teammates to ensure success in the proposal process.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, English, Journalism or related field
- APMP Practitioner certification highly desired
- 4 years of relevant experience in proposal management, technical writing and responding to public sector RFPs
- Experience writing and managing complex, high value RFPs
- Rigorous attention to detail and excellent technical and sales writing or editing skills
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Excellent comprehension, organization, and prioritization skills required
- Mastery of desktop publishing and document formatting tools including MS Office (e.g. PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Excel, etc.), Adobe Acrobat, and others to produce visually appealing and concise documents and diagrams
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Solid time management and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage various competing deadlines
- Experience working with Qvidian, Qorus, or other proposal management applications
- Knowledge and experience using Salesforce
- Experience working and influencing multiple stakeholders within a cross-functional, geo-dispersed team
