What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Axxiom Elevator?
Position Summary:
The Corporate Controller will lead, manage, and improve the company’s accounting and finance function including accounting operations, GAAP requirements, compliance, tax, audit, M&A integrations, and financial reporting. The position will report to the CFO and is a highly visible leadership position with exposure to executive leadership, operations teams, the board of directors, and external auditors.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about finding opportunities to improve F&A systems and processes, while strictly protecting the integrity of the organization’s accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and direct all accounting activities across the company, to ensure compliance with GAAP, lender covenants, and statutory guidelines, as well as internal financial policies and procedures
- Lead and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting processes, according to a fiscal calendar and close/reporting schedule
- Provide guidance on GAAP technical accounting and conduct internal/external research as needed on accounting requirements
- Create, maintain, and improve internal controls and process documentation for key activities/controls within the department
- Supervise functions within the department including WIP percent of completion accounting, AP, AR, Billing, Expense Reports, and other related accounting/finance functions
- Lead and coach a distributed accounting team with resources in multiple locations across the United States
- Drive a culture of continuous improvements to implement automation, efficiencies, and process enhancements on an ongoing basis
- Ensure managers and team members receive performance feedback and career growth opportunities.
- Provide team leadership, development, mentorship, and motivation
- Cross functional interaction with HR and Operations during M&A or strategic company initiatives.
- Serve as the owner of financial systems including the General Ledger (QuickBooks Online) and related subsystems (e.g., AP, T&E, etc.)
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Complete integration from prior acquisitions to harmonize systems and processes
- Participate in M&A for future acquisitions and integrations.
- Liaise with leaders across business systems, sales, tax, treasury, and other functions
OTHER:
- Exhibit the highest principles of integrity, honesty, and professionalism
- Act as a partner to the CFO and business leaders
- Design and administer effective record-keeping mechanisms (e.g., electronic files)
SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience as Controller
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP accounting, preferably with percent of completion accounting in a service or construction industry setting
- Outstanding communication skills
- Ability to adapt to an environment that may change rapidly
- Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills and general competency with financial systems/ledgers
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: The position requires an ability to work full-time from remote locations and company offices during normal business hours. Extended working hours may be needed during critical periods including the financial close, audits, and preparation for board/investor meetings.
