Job Summary
Provides on-site training and duties for the veg rooms, mother rooms, and propagation areas. Completes tasks assigned by the Veg Assistant Manager or Head Grower to monitor and maintain plant production and health. Ensures training of SOPs to new and current cultivation staff. Maintains quality control measures to ensure high-quality vegetative plants and clones. Maintains organization, cleanliness, and efficiency of grow zone. Carries out day-to-day plant care, including watering, pruning, topping, skirting, transplanting and the destruction of cannabis plants. Monitors and maintains plant production and quality control measures in accordance with the State and standards set by Ayr Wellness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Opening and Closing
- Opens and closes the designated vegetative grow zone according to Ayr Wellness standard operating procedures.
- Checks for any plant loss or stress, malfunctioning cultivation equipment, and any uncompleted tasks from the day before
- Delegates tasks to other Cultivators pertaining the Opening and Closing checklist.
- Double checks that all items on the Opening and Closing checklist are completed successfully and according to SOPs.
Leading Activities
- Maintains the vegetative plants daily to ensure maximum health.
- Leads the clone checks daily and oversees the logging of clone health data.
- Sets up a team for success by making sure every team member has the supplies and equipment needed
- Be able to multitask & oversee the work of other cultivators while also performing their own job duties
- Double checks Cultivator’s activities to ensure SOPs are being followed (pruning, shaping, topping etc.)
- Drive production to ensure transplanting and cuttings occur by deadline.
- Ensure all plant tagging is accurate.
- Ability to teach and coach other cultivators in a way that grows them as an individual and cultivator
- Ensure all logs are properly filled out daily and destroying plant waste as per Ayr Wellness SOP
- Performs cleaning and sterilization to workstation in accordance with Ayr Wellness SOP and viroid preventative practices.
Scouting
− Daily inspection of plants for overall health, pests, disease, or sex change.
− Daily inspection of irrigation equipment in the grow rooms.
− Daily inspection of insect traps.
− Daily walkthrough of all grow areas to ensure all equipment is in working order.
Reports and Documentation
− Assists the Veg Assistant Manager with tracking plants from propagation to flower by ensuring proper and accurate documentation for applicable activities.
− Ensures accurate documentation of all plant tracking numbers, lot numbers, and all other applicable information.
− Zone log of all plant rooms.
− Documents, according to Ayr Wellness policy, the application of all nutrients and/or substances applied to any plant located within the cultivation facility.
Additional Duties as Required
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older as outlined by state and federal requirements.
- Able to pass all background checks as mandated by state and federal requirements.
Education
- High school diploma/GED required
- 2-year degree in horticulture or related field preferred.
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in general cannabis cultivation or commercial production gardening
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic plant science and crop production.
- Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to make decisions as necessary with oversight when needed.
- Experience with inventory control software.
- Proficiency in Windows-based software and internet navigation.

Working conditions
- Operates with direct supervision from the Director of Cultivation and Cultivation Assistant Manager.
- Follows established policies and procedures and contributes to the development of new concepts, policies, and procedures as necessary to perform job duties and tasks.
- This job will require continuous education and training by the Director of Cultivation and Cultivation Managers.
- This position will require reading and learning through textbooks, articles, webinars, and hands-on activities.
- All employees will need to pass the needed basic biology, basic plant science, and facility processes training curriculum within 90 days of hire
- This person will have extended cannabis exposure and may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals, and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree.
- This person will also be exposed to strong UVA/UVB lights in growing areas; UVA/UVB safety glasses and neckerchiefs will be provided to protect against these. Hours may exceed 40 hours per week.
Physical requirements
- Ability to remain stationary and move equipment or plants up to 75 lbs. for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
- Accurate data-entry and record keeping. Knowledge of medical cannabis policy and law.
