What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Control Technician position at B.C. Cannon, Co.?

SUMMARY:

To assist with on-site coordination for all phases of Lane Closure, Flagging Operations & Detour Route installation and removal. Ensure all material and equipment are readily available as depicted by the approved Traffic Control Plan (TCP). Ensure that all specifications (state specifications and company specifications) are being strictly followed, work is proceeding on schedule and job site safety procedures are being followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare for and follow all applicable standards and guidelines per MUTCD standards and/or State guidelines for Temporary Traffic Control.
  • Drive the company vehicle to and from job sites in a safe manner.
  • Load and unload work zone equipment to and from the company vehicle.
  • Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
  • Setup, maintain and remove temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones and barricades according to ATSSA and SCDOT regulations.
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the Operations Manager and/or the Contractor/Customer.
  • Train new hire employees with equipment and material with all safety measures explained before entering the field.
  • Promote B. C. Cannon Company, Inc. to customers and the general-public by increasing brand awareness, engaging new clients, assisting in public relations efforts.
  • Document all work activities before, during and after each event.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle tight deadlines.
  • Team player, able to get along with a diverse group of people working toward a common goal.
  • Variations in work locations (including out of town) and schedules may occur-
  • Must be able to work out of town and night shift.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have High School Education preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, write, analyze, prioritize, and plan work activities, as well as, organize or schedule other people and their tasks. Ability to comprehend construction plans, and communicate plans thoroughly and successfully with foreman, Operations Manager, General Manager, and contractor/customer. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, clients, subcontractors, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, divisions, and multiplication. Ability to calculate quantities from construction contract documents.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to handle all problematic matters in a timely fashion.

TEAM WORK: Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests; Able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; Supports everyone’s efforts to succeed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods. Physical dexterity is required to handle objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand or walk on a variety of job sites, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
