Job description
The construction scope of this project includes the rehabilitation and replacement of the failing Seawalls approximately 1,900 feet (ft) and 1,500 ft long, upgrades to the stormwater system, and associated site restoration work including relocation of water, electric, and communications utilities. Work identified to be completed on the seawalls includes demolition and replacement works, removal of the top section and raising the elevation of all other wall sections, performing repairs on the existing structures to remain, and extending a section of the Seawall. The sidewalk along the Seawall will be replaced added alongside another section of the Seawall. Works to the stormwater system include adding a packaged pump system, installation of additional catch basins and pipes, flap gates will be added to the outlets on the seawall and the site will be regraded in specific locations to facilitate water flow to the drainage utilities.
Suitable habitat for the state-listed threatened Lake Erie Water Snake occurs at the project site, specifically along the shoreline with Lake Erie. Measurements and precautions must be taken to avoid and minimize impacts to the Lake Erie Water Snake, in accordance with Ohio Department of Natural Resources requirements, and in accordance with the Biological Monitor.
Qualifications.
- Demonstrate achievement of a minimum four-year Bachelor’s degree in Biology, a Biological Science field related to this work, an Environmental Science field related to this work, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
- Professional qualifications: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant environmental compliance and/or field biology work experience demonstrating knowledge and experience in environmental compliance monitoring and natural resource protection monitoring for construction projects.
- Approved or with sufficient qualifications to be approved by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife (DOW) as a herpetologist.
Responsibilities
- Daily and/or periodic inspections of holes or trenches for the Lake Erie Water Snake;
- Daily and/or periodic inspections of the work area for the Lake Erie Water Snake; limiting heavy machinery to only that which is necessary
- Restrictions on excavation October 15 to April 15 or when the air temperature is below 60 degrees
- Stopping work if Lake Erie Water Snakes are found.
