But while there is a lot to celebrate in our past, there is almost as much opportunity ahead of us. There is a huge opportunity to scale our technical documentation efforts at Backblaze with the goal of making our astonishingly easy solutions accessible to the widest possible audience of developers, businesses, and entrepreneurs. We are seeking a Senior Technical Editor to help us realize this opportunity.
What Youll Do:
- Manage and execute composition, editing, publication, revision, and organization of all Backblaze technical documentationincluding conceptual and task-based documentation, API reference documentation, internal training materials, SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), configuration guides, whats new documentation, and release notes
- Work collaboratively with the Engineering, Technical Operations, Product Management, and Marketing teams to grow, improve on, and develop future strategies for technical content that serves both internal and external technical stakeholders
- As necessary, identify, recruit, and manage freelance writers and/or agencies to scale efforts
- Grow process that aligns cross-departmental efforts and eases the movement of content from conception to publication
- Identify the tools (CMS, project management, etc) and the team necessary to improve and scale our technical documentation work over time
- Assist in the development of a long term documentation strategy, including laying the foundation for a team reporting to you and broad structural improvements to documentation
- With the broader Publishing Team, work to continually align Backblaze content with its brand identity and consistently improve its quality and impact
The Ideal Fit:
- 3-7 years or equivalent experience growing and maintaining technical product documentation
- Understanding of best practices for technical documentation and information architecture
- Flexibility and experience working with multiple CMS as well as using HTML for front end updates
- Exposure to or experience with source code written in Java, C , Python and/or JavaScript.
- Previous work with or composition of API documentation
- Understanding of documentation styles, including Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) and Associated Press (AP), and ability to grow and refine in-house style guides
- Experience growing and managing teams and freelance cohorts
- A record of excellent communication and collaboration, preferably in a globally and culturally diverse organization
- A love of language and quality narrative content
