Job Description
BAE is seeking a Senior Wireless Network Engineer to join our team on an Operations and Maintenance Infrastructure contract with our Federal Customer. The ideal candidate will possess expertise on multiple complex work assignments which are broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks. The Operations and Management (O&M) contract focuses on providing customers with IT Operations and Maintenance including system sustainment, modernizing its infrastructure, and controlling and managing the lifecycle of all changes with minimum disruption to end users.
The Wireless Enterprise Network is a mission-critical part of day-to-day operation; designing for the next generation wireless network is not just limited to handling network or hardware failure but also to improve user experience, network resiliency, and minimize downtime. This position calls for a Tier 3 Technical Wireless Network Engineer possessing subject matter expertise (SME) in high density 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) and 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6 and 6E) WLANs with exceptional administration, security (WPA3/802.1X), design (data/voice/video), analysis/troubleshooting and optimization skills. The position will also provide guidance on Radio Frequency (RF) wireless design for challenging RF environments.
The candidate must be able to document and collaborate with other IT network engineering tiers/teams of the 802.11WLAN concepts as they relate to the wired backbone network. As well as be able to effectively provide guidance in troubleshooting and resolving help desk tickets related to the enterprise WLAN. This position requires a good understanding of Layer 2 /3 switching and routing.
Solid knowledge and practical use of multiple vendor wireless solutions and WLAN professional tools including primarily Cisco to include Cisco Meraki (Cloud). Experience with Aruba, Cradlepoint, netAlly/AirMagnet, Ekahau, Metageek is a plus.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience OR 12 years related experience.
- Strong experience with both centralized and local Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers
- Strong experience with Cisco Lightweight Access Points
- Strong understanding of WLAN technologies, network management, 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with analysis tools such as Ekahau, Air Magnet, Wireshark, etc.
- Design, test and implement new Wi-Fi deployments and upgrades to existing infrastructure
- Engage with manufacturer technical support centers to quickly resolve issues as they arise as necessary
- Strong skills in Cisco Next Generation Digital Network Architecture not limited to current AireOS Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) 5520s/8540s/3504s.
- Wireless Access Points (APs) 1500s, 2800s, 3800s, and 4800s series.
- Additional knowledge of newer model Cisco Catalyst OS 9800 series WLCs and Catalyst 9100 series APs is favorable.
- Understanding of CAPWAP tunnels and the configuration of wireless APs in Local, FlexConnect, and Bridge (meshing) for both indoor office space, warehouses and outdoor deployments.
- Ability to troubleshoot network issues using Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Cisco DNA Center (DNA-C) and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Desired Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional/Expert, Certified Wireless Network Administrator Certified Wireless Security Professional, Certified Wireless Design Professional, Certified Wireless Analysis Professional, Certified Wireless Networking Expert. Aruba Wireless Mobility/Associate/Professional/Expert.
- 8 years of Enterprises WLAN experience and high density deployments
