Position Summary
The Global Trade Compliance Manager will be an outstanding professional with demonstrable experience in the following areas:
- Development and execution of a global trade compliance strategy encompassing import, export, tariffs and free trade agreements.
- Ability to work across functional groups, business units and sites to enhance import and export compliance controls, shape trade policies, and deploy advanced technology solutions.
- Ability to draft and manage policies, processes documentation, assessments, training, and metrics.
- Exceptional interpersonal, leadership and team building skills.
- Highest level of integrity, sound judgment and strong work ethic.
- Ability to balance compliance with operational efficiency.
- Effective communication at all levels and across all functions across the company.
Essential Functions
- Drive regulatory compliance with global import, export controls, FTA and sanctions.
- Effectively utilize and ensure compliance with Preferential Trade programs and other special programs, such as Free Trade Zones (FTZs).
- Effectively work across functions to develop and manage effective global trade compliance program.
- Develop and implement automated process tools where applicable, to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance.
- Participate in and support strategic projects (including M&A) with relevant compliance input, evaluation and due diligence.
Technical knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of US and global laws on export compliance, including:
- Sanctions-related denied party screening, embargo country management, antiboycott compliance, export filing, , etc.
- Product classification for export licensure (EAR, ECCN)
- Extensive knowledge of US and global laws on import compliance, including:
- Tariff classification, customs valuation, , origin marking, broker management, etc.
- Import filings, including CBP 10 2
- Entry requirements for specific classes of product including food (FDA Prior Notice), chemicals (TSCA, REACH), pesticides (EPA Notice of Pesticide Arrival)
- Extensive knowledge of global Preferential Trade Program compliance.
- Provides practical, actionable advice and guidance on the application and implementation of various regulations.
- Leads and participates in investigations on trade compliance matters, develops corresponding corrective action plans and ensures timely completion.
- Establish strategic plans, goals and objectives for Global Trade Compliance work.
- Develop and help drive strategies at the regional and site levels to drive trade compliance.
- Develop networks to drive regional compliance; build regional trade compliance team over time, as appropriate.
- Lead and implement policies and processes to standardize business processes globally.
- Resolve obstacles to facilitate the flow of goods across borders.
- Ensure company-wide training through in-house programs and other means.
- Assist in assessments of sites’ compliance.
- Ensure activities and programs operate within approved budget.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects.
- Manage positive relationships with service providers, government authorities, customers and suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Skilled at developing and leading high-performing trade compliance teams.
- Interacts with multiple functions (legal, supply chain, finance, etc.) to ensure alignment.
- Works with all levels of employees to identify gaps, and prioritize and execute trade policy.
- Able to persuade through consensus.
- Operates with the highest levels of integrity, maintaining a commitment to Balchem’s social, ethical and organization values.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- US Customs brokers license preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience developing and implementing global trade compliance programs within multinational corporations.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of laws and regulations on export, import, FTAs, and supply chain security.
- Strong strategic and tactical trade compliance background.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, assume increased responsibilities, and take initiative in a fast paced, high energy, global environment.
- Experience in managing trade compliance professionals.
- Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel international/domestically, as needed.
- Highest level of integrity, sound judgment and strong work ethic.
- Commute to our Montvale, NJ headquarters. Hybrid work model (expected to be in the office three days a week).
