Summary
Balfour Beatty Rail (BBR), is currently undertaking the $1B Caltrain Electrification Project in San Mateo, CA. Estimated completing of the project is set for 2024. The project consists of electrifying a 56-mile corridor from San Francisco to San Jose; with construction of overhead catenary systems, substations, track and rolling stock.
We are currently seeking a Signal Inspector to join the team. The Signal Inspector is responsible for testing, inspecting, installing and repairing systems, apparatus, and components of railroad signaling systems and railroad electronic equipment. In addition to overseeing and compiling daily reports of sub-contractor activities and installations.
Essential Job Functions
- Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews.
- Interpret project plans, circuits, layouts, installation methods and communicating on a daily basis with the sub-contractor.
- Reviewing contractor submittals for constructability and compliance to contract.
- Prepare inspectors' daily reports and other project related reports.
- Assis in preparing field change orders, or directives.
- Assisting other employees when and where instructed.
- Read and interpret system designs and circuit plans in order to troubleshoot problems and effect repairs when needed.
- Familiar with performing FRA testing at railroad signal crossings.
- Document, test and inspect information on required forms for compliance with FRA.
- Responsible for compliance with all applicable laws and rules governing the operation of crossing warning devices.
- Must be familiar and in compliance with CFR part 234.
- Must possess general knowledge of railroad systems and practices.
- Signal Maintainer shall be familiar with Federal House of Service requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience with railroad signal systems construction required
- Previous experience with maintenance on a Class 1 or commuter railroad required
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Commercial driver's license preferred
- Two-year certificate from college or technical school in Electrical field preferred
