What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief of Surveys position at Baltimore County?
A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Survey Division.

Under general supervision, plans, supervises, and administers the Survey Division of the Bureau of Engineering and Construction.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises the survey crews and support personnel of the Division.
- Supervises and administers the conducting of various land surveys, including engineering, topographic, construction, design, and property line surveys.
- Supervises the maintenance and preparation of field survey records and reports.
- Supervises the distribution of records and survey reports to the public and other agencies.
- Supervises the preparation of plats related to capital projects in the County.
- Provides technical assistance to various agencies regarding surveys and related issues.
- Provides guidance and assistance through lower-level supervisors to staff regarding survey issues.

Ten years' field survey experience, three years of which were in a supervisory capacity.
Additional education in engineering or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required non-supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a certificate of registration as a Land Surveyor or as a Property Line Surveyor under the laws of the State of Maryland is required at the time of appointment.
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Proof of licenses, certifications, and/or education must be submitted with each application. This proof must be submitted by the closing date of the job posting.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of the training and experience as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
