Job Posting for Assistant Vice President, Regulatory Affairs at Bank Policy Institute (BPI)

Mission of Organization:

We are a nonpartisan public policy, research and advocacy group, representing the nation’s leading banks. Our members include universal banks, regional banks and the major foreign banks doing business in the United States. Collectively, they employ nearly 2 million Americans, make 72% of all loans and nearly half of the nation’s small business loans and serve as an engine for financial innovation and economic growth.

Our staff includes economists, researchers, financial analysts and attorneys, all focused on using data and analysis to shape sound policy. We distribute our research and analysis to U.S. and global regulators, members of Congress, academics and media through academic-quality research papers, blog posts, white papers, comment letters, and Congressional testimony. We also serve our members through our Business-Innovation-Technology-Security division, which provides an executive-level forum to discuss and promote current and emerging technology, foster innovation, reduce fraud and improve cybersecurity and risk management practices for the nation’s financial sector.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, will play an important role in advocating for prudent banking regulation, primarily on topics related to capital, liquidity, risk, and regulatory reporting requirements. This position will work directly with executives from leading banks and members of the Regulatory Affairs team to research, synthesize and communicate information to support the development of regulatory comment letters, white papers, and other policy notes (e.g., blogs). Candidates for the role are not expected to possess a deep knowledge of banks and banking regulation but should be interested in developing that understanding as part of this highly visible position. While prior experience in finance is not required, the ideal candidate would have worked for 1-3 years in a professional setting. This role is an outstanding springboard for your career where you will learn from industry leaders and build an elite network of contacts.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with our member banks and other stakeholders to research, compile, and synthesize information to support the development of regulatory comment letters, white papers, blogs, and other written materials.
  • Quickly absorb and learn the details of regulatory policy and reporting requirements, with the goal of becoming a subject matter expert on various topics and developing comment letters and other advocacy materials, once up-to-speed.
  • Field questions and calls from our member banks regarding regulatory issues, either by addressing directly or by coordinating additional conversations with other relevant regulatory staff at BPI.
  • Schedule and run meetings with senior executives at member banks, as well as the Federal Reserve and other bank regulatory agencies.
  • Assist the Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Perform other administrative duties as needed, including calendar management, meetings support, time and priority management, and project management and timeline preparation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in liberal arts or economics preferred.
  • Strong, concise, accurate, and effective written and oral communications; must be able to communicate and coordinate with individuals across all levels of a financial institution.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment while also taking initiative and working independently, with ability to multi-task and prioritize objectives and deliverables.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational and project management abilities.
  • Intellectual curiosity for learning about the financial services industry.
  • A high level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including Excel, PowerPoint and Word applications.
This position is based at BPI’s headquarters location in Washington, DC. Most staff come into the office 4 days per week, and work from home on Friday; we’d expect the candidate to follow this schedule.
