Organic Vegetable Gardener

OVERVIEW: We are looking for a driven, flexible, and organized person to join our private residential team. The Organic Gardener should be team-oriented, with no task too small mentality. They must be motivated and like to work outdoors in various weather conditions. We expect the gardener to have the ability to multi-task and to be a great communicator. This role reports to the Property Manager, as well as the Principles. The position is part-time, approximately 25-30 hours per week.

The role is responsible for the following tasks/duties:

• Plant and maintain organic vegetable garden and other indoor plants/vegetation to ensure that plantings are healthy, free of weeds, and attractive
• Transplant seedlings grown indoors and outdoors
• Prepare and fertilize beds where vegetables will be grown
• Weeding
• Use various garden tools and equipment; ensure they are well maintained
• Maintain the irrigation system
• Harvest vegetables
• Wash the harvested vegetables
• Coordinate with chef and schedule harvesting for menu preparations
• Ensure that garden/nursery area is well maintained, clean and stocked
• Ensure that plants are labelled correctly and that signage is clearly displayed
• Arrange plant displays and cut flowers
• Assist other residential team members with work unrelated to the garden as needed and required by the Property Manager

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of organic gardening techniques
• Prior experience with organic gardening or landscaping preferred
• Familiarity with maintenance requirements of garden and landscaping equipment
• This position demands good physical and mental health. The position will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull bend and work a flexible schedule.
• Heavy loads may need to be carried
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and put up with mosquitoes and bugs will be required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

License/Certification:
