The Supervisor - Surgical Operations is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift and is responsible and accountable for directing and facilitating the efficient flow of patient care activities of the department/area. The position manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The position is responsible for the delivery of quality care in designated surgical services area while meeting standards as set forth by the State, regulatory agency and facility policies and procedures. The position promotes teamwork with all surgical team members and other departments. The position works with leadership on team member relations including communication and documentation with the team member. The Supervisor - Surgical Operations works with surgeons and anesthesia providers directing and coordinating workflows.

Responsibilities
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by surgical services as defined in the scope of service to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
- Functions skillfully and effectively in a circulator role and/or scrub role as relief for breaks/lunches or to do cases. Demonstrates skills and judgement necessary for patient care and the accurate documentation of that care.
- Maintains responsibility for staffing: daily staff assignments, staffing coverage for call ins or gaps in the posted schedule created from day-to-day operational issues and optimizing the use of resources to maximize productivity.
- Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities, in accordance with established standards and ensures safe efficient flow of the schedule.
- Maintains responsibility for providing staffing coverage for shift as needed or for last minute call ins or gaps in schedule.
- Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned ensuring skill set and effective use of resources.
- Communicates and coordinates with surgeons and anesthesia providers effectively to direct and manage efficient workflow.
- Provides preliminary or front-line coaching and team member relations with team members ensuring documentation of those conversations.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
- Supports Professional Governance through engagement and support of the Unit Based Council and other nursing councils.
- Associates Degree Nursing or Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required. Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred.
- 2 years Clinical nursing experience in a surgical services area Required.
- Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state license Upon Hire Required.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in critical care nursing, knowledge and skills.
- Capable of adapting to a changing environment, including emergency situations.
- Organizational skills are essential due to the changing status of the patient and the environment.
- Possesses effective organizational, decision and problem solving skills in own practice and when supervising others.
- Must be able to return to the hospital/facility within 30 minutes of a Callback.
