Summary
The Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) Medical Library and provides leadership, direction, and oversight for development and operation of the Medical Library collections and user services. Supervisor participates in setting the Medical Library's strategic direction and will work closely with Information Technology and coordinate with BUCOM faculty, staff, and leaders to curate effective resources for and develop processes and initiatives which support undergraduate medical education, research and scholarly activity. Externally, this position will work with third-party vendors and manage relationships to provide appropriate learning resources which promote the advancement of medical knowledge. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean OMS 1 & 2, responsible for all functions 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents are subject to hours beyond the normal workday.
Responsibilities
1.Direct the day-to-day operations of the library to support an effective learning environment for BUCOM students; provide research assistance; develop and review library policies and procedures; coordinate the development of content and delivery of information literacy instruction and advocate for the integration of Medical Library resources and services into academic program learning outcomes. Supervise the recruitment, development, and performance of library staff.
2.Procure appropriate Medical Library resources to support teaching and learning of BUCOM curriculum. Oversee, manage, and report the status of any and all contracts, licenses, and purchasing that supports the educational, research, and governance missions of BUCOM. Manage electronic resource collection to ensure that online holdings are accessible on campus and remotely through all library platforms and search engines.
3.Collect and analyze usage statistics, assess library services and programs, prepare reports, and make recommendations for strategic planning and decision making; assist in analyzing financial needs, developing budget requests and monitoring/expenditures for the operation of the library; negotiate online database, journal, and e-book access; conduct research on innovative library products and services and make cost-effective recommendations.
4.Maintain knowledge of trends in library services for osteopathic medical students, assessment, technology, and information literacy; serve on University and BUCOM committees as appropriate; represent the Medical Library in regional and national organizations.
5.Ensure that required reports for federal agencies including the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) annual library report, are submitted on time and provide accurate information. Participate in University and BUCOM accreditation processes by providing appropriate documentation and reports and meeting with accreditors when necessary. Develop annual assessment plans, identifying designated benchmarks, measurement tools, and outcomes. Analyze and use data to enhance library services and resources.
6.Perform related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.
Requirements, Preferences and Experience
Master's degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
Five (5) years library experience with at least (2) two years of supervisory experience.
