What are the responsibilities and job description for the Comms Planner position at Barkley?

Barkley’s Comms Planning is part of Barkley’s integrated Strategy department, paired with the General Strategy and Business Intelligence teams. Your most important deliverable is ensuring that ideas flow from the brand to the audience in ways that signal a brand’s understanding of their audience and will have the greatest impact.

You are equally responsible for: 1) expertly setting up queries and extracting data from tools working with our Strategy partners to build qualitative and quantitative research opportunities 2) identifying key observations that focus on how ideas flow to consumers, exhibiting a clear understanding of how that impacts a brands’ overarching Communications Plan as well media planning, social media, CRM, PR, and brand actions. You focus on audience behaviors across all paid, owned, and earned channels and will pull and distill research into understandable insights. You will work with the larger team to turn these insights into ideas that authentically flow from the brand to the consumer in the most effective formats.

You begin to autonomously own contributions to creative briefs, and can master the one-pager Comms summary. You bring requested and proactive ideas and briefs to your team and client, and you have a role in client-facing presentations.

You focus on day-to-day deliverables and present both internally and sometimes to clients.

  • You like to take a microscope to audiences and go deep on understanding how they consume and interact with brands in order to deliver prescriptive creative direction
  • You love to collaborate with brand strategists, creatives, media, and channel experts to inform and inspire how ideas live in the world
  • You've mastered a channel or specialty (media, social, email, etc) and are looking to widen your aperture to impact holistic channel strategy and integration
  • You’re inquisitive when researching and enjoy letting data lead you to conclusions
  • You are proactive and motivated with a strong sense of urgency and desire to grow

Requirements:

  • 2 years of experience (agency or not) in strategy, social, PR, comms, CRM. Cross-team experience is a plus.
  • Degree in marketing, communications, business, psychology, advertising, media, other

Responsibilities:

  • Clearly understands where and how Comms Planning contributes across our book of business
  • Become the expert ‘go to’ for data pulls and early insight-building as needed to assist CP’s upper management across all clients, as needed (including assisting in pitches)
  • Begin independently creating insights from data
  • Day-to-day responsibility on client projects; eager to take the first run at any comms planning ask or research collaborations
  • Contribute to sharp, insightful creative briefs, offering prescriptive ‘ways in’ to the ideas for creative teams
  • Support on new business and project work
  • Contribute to Barkley marketing activities
  • Work towards building confident and strong presentation skills
  • Forge strong integrated working relationships with internal teams and external partners
  • Co-author Barkley’s integrated Strategy artifacts
  • Develop and own channel/comms ideas
  • Contribute to Barkley’s internal marketing efforts
  • Primarily supports research including learning tools and extracting third-party data.
  • Can independently work with strategy managers and supervisors to collaborate on data pulls to inform the insights needed to create recommendations for our shared artifacts.
  • Partners with Engagement team members across specialties building knowledge of channel opportunities; Primarily, build relationships with Media Planning and ensures audience segmentation includes their inputs.
  • Responsible for at least one pitch and/or brands’ comm plans’ research, with little oversights
