Barrel Back Restaurant, located in Walloon Lake, Michigan, is currently seeking a General Manager. Barrel Back is the most popular restaurant in Northern Michigan with the best on the lake views, in-house slow smoked meats, and a wood fired pizza oven. It also has a banquet facility and a food truck as supplementary outlets to our bustling, full-service restaurant, opened year-round, 8:30am to 9:30/10:30pm daily.

The General Manager at Barrel Back Restaurant is responsible, motivated, and passionate about providing our patrons with the best experience possible. The General Manager is responsible for keeping the restaurant on point and running efficiently. This includes managing the guest experience to be the best in Northern Michigan, taking care of the staff as the best employer in Northern Michigan, and managing all Cost of Goods effectively.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

1. Works with and trains the staff as an enthusiastic, team-driven leader on a consistent and daily basis

2. Clearly and humbly directs the team during hours of operation

3. Demonstrates and maintains a high standard of organization, whilst holding the staff at an equally high level

4. Maintains a Jiro Ono style clean kitchen

5. Insures the kitchen prepares high quality food at all times, no exceptions

6. Controls, regulates, and sets forth food quality and plate consistency

7. Ensures an efficient, cost-effective operation by way of shrewd food and alcohol purchasing, purveyor price bidding, inventory, and kitchen fiscal management

8. Works with the Chefs to keep the menu fresh, developing and rotating in new menu items, features, creative food truck dishes, and custom banquet menus

9. Monitors holding and storage operations, stocking and food rotation, and guarantees food service sanitation standards are maintained

10. Insures strong and efficient communication between the kitchen and the front of the house, at all times

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, the General Manager must be proficient in each essential duty required. The requirements listed below are indicative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required for the available General Manager position.

Education and/or Professional Experience

1. High school or GED equivalent required, formal business training or associate degree in strongly preferred

2. Minimum 4 years managing in a non-chain restaurant required

3. Minimum 2 years as a General Manager required, preferably at one location

4. Experience in a multiple outlet dining environment preferred

5. Must have a valid Driver’s License

Computer/Math/Language Skills

1. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or like program

2. Familiarity with Microsoft Word or like program

3. Ability to write emails in a professional, timely manner

4. Build professional relationships with the purveyors of Barrel Back

5. Cognitive skills in food inventory, costing, yields, and purchasing

a. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages

b. Able to apply basic math and algebraic math skills towards food production applications

Physical Demands

1. Able to stand for long periods of time

2. Able to carry 75lbs of flour up and down the kitchen stairs

3. Able to work strenuous hours in a hot kitchen environment

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, with full health benefits (a matching HSA account) and 2-weeks paid vacation per year

The salary rate will be determined based on experience and interviews with the Executive Team

An annual evaluation occurs where the salary will be examined
