Job Summary
HRI, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947, has an opening for an experienced and upbeat Pipe & Dirt Crew Members.
The position is within our Highway Construction Region and will be located primarily in the State College area.
The position will report to the supervisor and will conduct a variety of duties in and around the job site of construction projects.
Excellent attendance is essential for the team to achieve success. The ideal candidate has a consistent record of success in fast-paced environments as well as connecting with cross-functional teams.
Main Responsibilities
- Complete tasks as directed by supervisor in a timely manner
- Maintain and clean work areas
- Perform shoveling, raking, and demolition work as required
- Able to work and assist others to work in a safe manner within the guidelines of the company's policies
- Locate, avoid, and protect existing underground utilities
- Read and interpret grade instruments (tape measures, grade rods, levels, and lasers)
- Apply basic knowledge of soil types, trenching, and shoring per OSHA regulations
- Understanding of water and sewer line installation
- Operate the excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner in a productive environment
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
- Work with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe online and grade
- Ability to drive and operate equipment under varying working conditions
- Other duties may be assigned
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid drivers license with the ability to maintain a clean driving history
Skills
- Previous experience and knowledge with utilities, pipe and / or related field preferred
- CDL Preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by Company safety guidelines
- Regularly required to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Regularly required to use hands to move and manipulate objects
- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Standing / working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
- Frequent exposure to loud noise
- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
- Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
- Required to work varying hours, including nights / weekends, Overtime as required
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Proven track record working safely
- Good work ethic, professional, and positive attitude
